UK, downloaded, not installed yet, didn’t get the option, presuming low temp outside? Will keep you updated

I also got the notification that I can download and install 07/2020.54.
The strange thing is I asked the dealer to update my car on arrival (which it seems he did) for AA and that is also a feature that I got.
So I had the idea I already had that update. But I just checked and I have 07/2020.32:

Is it even worth upgrading than or does somebody know what the differences can be ?

Not much I guess. I upgraded from 07/2020.45 to 07/2020.54 and didn't notice any differences.

The minor revisions are mostly about incremental quality improvement, the usual "now 10% less ..."

My X5 is stuck on this since last OTA update. Anyone know how I can bring back the option on this screen to check for updates?

Got the update today via OTA, process was simple and fast. I'm in Canada BTW.

I upgraded yesterday and my previous coding got wiped - no big deal as I can recode but a bit annoying and I don't know if there's a way to make the features sticky for next time.

Things like traffic light assist are maybe 1 step closer, but what I don;t know is how much of the car is upgraded this way. For instance I presume other modules may need to be upgraded at the dealer (I don't want to flash any of the modules myself) as features may also be based on the istep rather than just this update. Am I right in thinking that?

If you FA code, then you'll retain some features as long as the code was available when initially ordered as it will upgrade the entire ECU to what it thinks you should have. Downside is that it's much easier to identify the coding if someone is poking around.

All the FDL coding will get wiped to factory for the particular istep. The new istep might require a few more code adjustments to get full feature. I think anti dazzle comes to mind. If you saved each cafd file after coding you can easily load those up and recode, but then add any extra tweaks that are necessary.

Some things are istep dependent.

You can update your FA for certain features, such as anti-dazzle and auto lane change assistant, and these will persist post i-step upgrade, but all other coding will be wiped.

With a main branch update, whether OTA or at the dealer, then the majority of ECU are programmed and recoded, so OTA is all you need.

Technically the car isn't coded back to factory - it's coded against your FA (Vehicle Order), which includes your model, country, options, build date, etc. The resultant coding will never resemble the factory configuration. 'Code default' is closer to a factory restore - never do that.

Don't use old cafd to restore coding after a major i-step upgrade - the cafd can be entirely different e.g. VIP changed entirely after i-step update 11/2019, and SAS2 changes to SAS3 with i-step 07/2020. There are other incremental changes with i-step updates for other ECUs too.

I do recommend restoring ncd in other scenarios though, where an upgrade hasn't been performed. Saves loads of time.

Traffic Light Assist won't be enabled on your car by default, unless BMW completely changes the coding (unlikely). Currently, TLA will only be activated on cars with a build date of 11/2020 and newer.

Thanks for that clarification ifr. My novice level is still shining through. Should the SAS ecu be visible in 11/2019 or was this an updated split of ecus in later istep? I couldn't see it in the older istep version even with the car running. I'm thinking about doing a fresh esys install before messing with 7/2020 this weekend in case it's an issue with my software. Already miss my PDC with braking and some of the other traffic features. Sadly I didn't get into coding prior to this purchase and my G05 is not equipped with all the sensor options. I won't make that mistake again.

No problems

SAS2 should have been listed with 11/2019 if you have DAP. Try it in diagnostic mode (3 quick press of the start button) before you read ECU.

If you don't have DAP/5AU then you probably/almost certainly won't have SAS (some exceptions).

Cool, so Canada is getting OTA updates to 07/2020.xx simultaneously with most of the rest of the world, unlike the prior one. Mine still wants me to update from current 11/2019.40 to 11/2019.70 for just the last couple of weeks, which I won't do.

Bit of a novice question..... Are these updates incremental? i.e. You need to do 11/2019.70 before you can then do 07/2020.54?

Or can you jump from 11/2019.40 straight to 07/2020.54?

Just wondered.

I don't believe we know for OTA updates (direct ISTA/dealer updates generally don't need to be sequential, although I think I recall reading about a couple of past platform exceptions to this over the years). For OTA, there hasn't been enough OTA updates for us to have reverse-engineered the philosophy and we'll all be driving Teslas before BMW ever communicates such philosophy publicly or reliably. It may also be complicated by being a hybrid: some major architecture-changing version may require some other minimal prior version for OTA update, but not others

I suppose we're about to find out, if only everyone were to carefully always post:

- how they got their update: OTA, dealer, self
- updated-from version
- updated-to version
- car build geography
- current location geography

Did you activate the adaptive function in Idrive? I am on 03/2020 and it works in my car.

I think it only works with navigation set to a destination. Not 100 % sure. But maybe that is the problem?

Got just the update to 07/2020.54 from Switzerland. However, after download the files to my phone and transfer 1.5 Go to the car, I'm stuck even it's seems to be ready to be installed. I haven't access to the page to validate the install, even with the car parked.

Any ideas ? Thanks

Go and drive for 50-100 km to charge your battery fully
. I had the same, read through the forum that it worked for some, tried it and voila

This feature is region based, when I went to Germany for my holidays couple of months ago my car behaved differently then it is in a Poland (auto speed setting, auto breaking in corners etc). I was hoping that they will make it available in Poland also in 7/2020 as I was hoping for polish assistant to work. At least BMW was promising to make it work this year.

What I’m also missing and I don’t know if I should get it is the Tesla like view in the instrument cluster (where you can see your car and other cars in lanes) - wasn’t that feature already available in 3/2020? What am I missing? I have fully equipped X5 with all radars, cameras etc. At least I believe I do.

That function is called Assited Driving view. It can be selected in idrive menu for content of the display in your dashboard.

I have it and it works. I don't know if it was from factory? It had 07/2019 or after the update to 03/2020.

I didn't realize that in Europe drive assist functions could be different. I hope they will make it available for you.
