My KAFAS camera was replaced due to "lane departure warning". The camera was replaced but they were still getting an error message so they thought a wiring issue or harness, etc. My SA said BMW has stopped shipping KAFAS camera since it is not fixing the issue. They are still trying to get the car fixed and their service department is working with BMW corporate to resolve the issue. I escalated this issue with BMW and asked them to either fix it or just give me a new X5. They said they wanted to try to fix it first but if could not then they would replace it. He also said as a gesture of good will they would be doing "something" for me due to the delay. Not sure what they are going to offer but I've been researching BMW Extended Service Contracts and BMW Ultimate Care+ and will be asking for both up to 7 years full coverage at no cost. It cost them next to nothing but it does have some value to me too.

My X5 2019 is in the shop and the dealer is replacing the KAFAS camera. I just called to the dealer to get the update and I was told that they are replacing the windshield as well. Do you know by the chance if your windshield was replaced along with the KAFAS camera? I'm not sure what is going now:-(

My windshield was replaced due to a crack from a rock kicked up from a passing truck. My SA said there as a "bad lot" of KAFAS cameras so they are being discontinued until it is resourced. My guess is that it was just one manufacturer or he may be stretching the facts a bit. They had just kicked it up to replace the vehicle when I got another call today from my SA saying they found a KAFAS camera that is guaranteed to work and BMW is sending it to the dealer by FedExp. He said give him a couple of days to fix it before they move forward with replacement. I can be a little more patient since it is just building up my "good will" credit with them. I hope to turn this into some Extended Warranty and Extended Service coverage. They mentioned cash this morning but I think I would rather have the coverage. That way piece of mind for the next 7 years or 125,000 miles. I figure I would get a couple of brake jobs, quite a few oil changes, spark plugs, etc. I also believe they may be more willing to deal if it along these lines instead of cash. We shall see.

Purchased at Momentum BMW Southwest but the work is being conducted at BMW North since it is closer to my home. It appears the KAFAS camera is not dealer specific. Are you currently driving your X5? I said the Lane Departure is an important safety feature of the car and without it working we have a problem. Plus if I picked up my car and gave back the loaner their incentive to fix this problem quickly gets reduced. What is your SA saying?
I would expect that if this were a manufacturing defect we would be seeing plenty of KAFAS problems on this forum. Unless if the defect was limited to a particular manufacturer, dealer or build date range. Even then I would expect to see all kinds of issues on this forum. I also believe your build date is a couple of months after mine and aren't all the X5's made in SC coming off the same assembly line? I can share my SA but I think he is handling this the same way any of them would. I just got BMW Customer Care involved over a month ago and kept calling both my SA, his advisor and BMW Customer Care. All have been consistent in that they want to fix it first. I was informed by BMW Customer Care that they have engaged BMW Marketing(?) and started the process of replacement but with a camera being located I think they want one last time to fix. If I get a replacement it may be missing some things like no Laser Lights, etc. Other than XPEL and window film (which they acknowledged would be added to a new vehicle) I have done no modifications. Has anyone had success in getting the problem fixed? I took mine to the dealer and they tried reinstalling the software and only managed to down grade it to a older version. Something about the Ista software not being current and them not having the current version downloaded and didn’t have admin rights to get it downloaded. It’s going back Friday I won’t be taking it back until they fix it.

I think it’s the camera but BMW is trying hard not to replace them. Have your service manager bother BMW NA. I’m going to dig around and see if any other BMWs are having this issue. I’m guessing that camera is used on other models.
That said, it’s just plain stupid that they cannot fix the thing. |

I already have asked for a replacement. Mine is a November build and has too many issues. I’ve bought a lot of BMWs so I hope I can work out a replacement. Love the car but it’s a POS for initial reliability 2 weeks)

Sorry to hear people having issues with this fault.
I just picked up my G05 about 4 weeks ago. Live in upstate NY so lots of snowy weather, and of course the drivers assistance reduced error was prevalent. I thought, and still hope, that it's just due to inclement weather. I actually don't recall getting the message when the weather is nice. I think I'm just going to wait it out and see how this resolves with BMW. I don't have a very good relationship with the local dealership either. All my vehicles are leased from a dealer in NJ. Otherwise, I do love this vehicle! I think it's the idrive 7 that really sells it for me. |

After the part being on order for almost a month, the KAFAS camera came in and I just dropped it off for replacement and a complete re-programming.
Crossing my fingers that this fixes it and I stop getting that annoying pop up every 5 minutes. |
