Awesome colour by the way, that's Sandstone - yes?

Glad you like the colour! Managed to stay away from the mono colours, only other available was Phytonic or this one, Sunstone, at the time we placed our order. Didn't tell the wife that as an Individual colour it cost more than Phytonic - until we had it for a few months!

But it is a great colour that goes well with the Xline trim in our eyes.

One thing that was a concern, was the reports from the US guys (only picked up after we had our order in for a few weeks) that Sunstone wasn't available to order with Driving Assistant Pro - but it's on ours and we have had no issues. Suggestion was that the reflections from the bonnet confused the KAFAS camera - nothing to this effect has happened with us, must be the different weather we get here in Scotland....

Sorry - off-topic!

Probably more rude opening a thread that is over three years inactive. Actually since you are the OP that probably is not rude at all.

Some people save the money for one, some stretch the budget in order to get, etc. It is all a matter of what priorities a person puts on it.

I think the answer is different then and now. We have typically leased at good (low) interest rates, with decent discounts (usually 15%+), and still end up with equity in the car. So then you're really looking at the cost of ownership - ie cost of lease minus equity, minus the lower bills of owning a new car (MOT, tyres, etc). Compared to other cars, works out quite well.

Now? With price increases, higher loan rates, and little in the way of discounts, my estimate is that it is at least c30% more. We're now buying the car and seeing what happens (it doesn't help that the dealer couldn't sell for toffee though).

That's a genius thought. There are some smart people on this forum. Scary really some of them are my social audiences.

I am looking at the G05 or have been since 19 waiting for prices to drop. Now also looking at the F15, and even those are really high on the network, not so much outside the network.

I don't think 50k is reasonable pricing for a G05 30d from 2019.

I think they will all hold money now nobody wants EVs but there is a chance the chip shortage will ease and there will be lots of new cars on sale.

I suppose the X5 is the holding money car - always has been - but yes I do look at people and think.. "Hang on, how do you afford 800-1200 a month to rent a car"

Long time ago I would "lease purchase" now banned... I remember spending the equivalent of a weeks income on a monthly payment but I was a child then!

Closest I can come up with, involve some calculation

gas used = total mile driven / displayed MPG

actual MPG = (total mile - EDrive mile) / gas used

I think it'll be interesting to see how it pans out. The lift in used car prices is in part lack of stock, but increasingly because an increasing number of people are now priced out of the market. Ours has gone up in value in the last 3 months for example. But so have new cars, by an even bigger margin. So the monthly we were quoted would would raise by 45% (and continues to increase).

Then the next 18 months will see even more pressure on buyers as inflation and interest rates really hit hard (my mortgage rate will triple next year when my fix ends for example). That will mean fewer buyers I suspect, but also potentially the leasing bubble bursting. There will always be those who can buy cash, but I suspect that will be a smaller number.
Who knows quite what might happen! But I think we're resigned to not buying a new car in the next 3 years.

EVs. I think that's been dented by energy prices, but it's also a reflection I think that people are asking why should I pay 10-20% more for an EV. We set off to buy one last year but ended up buying petrol because it was so much cheaper. Very crude math suggested we'd never recoup the difference in a 4 year lease (we'd have to at least 30k miles a year, and get the charging rate down to 2.5p per mile which is unlikely).

My 40i averaged 26mpg UK 21.65 US over 5000 miles, too early to post figures for my M50i.
