I don't understand the logic behind them locking the audio system into the highest engine configuration. I'm pretty sure the upgrade "upgrade" audio system was always available across all trims. It makes them money and is a good option for people who are happy with the smaller engine but really want good sound and all of the other amenities. Makes no sense to me to have to spend that much extra just to have the option to get good sound. Maybe the B&W option just isnt selling well on the lower trims? imo, they should make the B&W system as standard equipment.

Totally agree with you!

I don't get it either, perhaps they're restructure G05 packaging again next year after the market and supply channels rebound.

welp, I always look forward to MY changes to see what BMW will do to entice buyers over the previous year, even if its a better combo than my own build. For once, I'm just so very happy with my build as I have it and sad that people reupping their lease are getting the short end, if they were to get a 40i. It still seems to me that the 40i is the sweet spot for most buyers/leasees; its a great vehicle with plenty of power for day to day travel and reasonable fuel economy. they should try to have every option available for the 40i.

not everyone wants a x5m, or even a x7, even if its based mainly on issues related to fuel economy or sheer size, not necessarily affordibility. sure am glad we got pretty much all the options available in the x7 in ours. hopefully BMW reconsiders their new approach for selling options going into future MYs.

Little bit confused. But will wireless Android auto only be available when you have the MY21 ?
Have a car in order ATM and would really hope it gets Android auto.

I believe that previous builds will still get Android Auto. I've heard that Android Auto will be released/updated/added in the 07/2020.XX update.

I guess we'll find out in another month or so.

These are their marketing games. I also can't understand why B&W is 50% cheaper in US then in Europe, like most of the other options. Can't be the taxes, gap is too wide...

So today I placed an order for my X5 xDrive40i. Given the options I've requested (Fully loaded, with the exception of integrated active steering, night vision, running boards) it will be interesting how this plays out:
1) If my X5 will be identified as a 2020 or MY21 (given parts delays, and the BMW SC plant currently fulfilling a backlog of X5's due to Covid-19, and
2) If because I placed the order today I'll be able to get the Bowers & Wilkins audio before the MY21 production options are "enforced".

We'll see...

Just realize that in the US you have to buy the executive package, which might have a bunch of stuff the buyer does not really want. That is like another $4k.

May I ask the source of this information? It seems odd they’d stop selling B&W on other models as the pricing for B&W on a 40i is more expensive than on higher model levels.

Jay is a BMW client advisor so I'm thinking his source is first hand from BMWNA.

Bummer...I was looking forward to ordering a 2021 40i with B&W. I don't care for the sound from HK after hearing B&W.

Jump on a 2020. You'll have until July to order plus whatever is on the lots.

JayPichardo, Do you think the M50i will be phased out like the 50i?

LOL, definitely no. The 50i was an interim launch engine until the M50i was ready.

BMW M Performance vehicles will continue to serve as a bridge between BMW ///M and 4-/6-cylinder engine offerings.
