Exhaust Flap Stays Open?

By setting exhaust flap to "Open" (vs. "Auto" or "Closed") in BimmerLink, does it remain open permanently until changed? Or does the phone/OBD need to reconnect each time the vehicle is turned on for it to re-open? Having a hard time discerning if it's open while in drive, and the setting cannot be checked while the vehicle is in motion.

It does not stay open using this method. It is your second assertion: when BimmerLink connects next and is able to open the flap, it will. But upon car shutdown it will revert to BMW-programmed behaviour.

To keep flap permanently open, you need to get it open (BimmerLink or another method) and then a) pull the control cable at the exhaust or b) pull the fuse. Or c) remove the flap spring at the exhaust and tie off the flap open with a wire. Those are the 3 methods.
