I just shared the video which seems quite interesting and useful. But I haven't done anything to mine yet.

Could be correct.
I have read somewhere (don't have source) that the exhaust flaps are also used to give more performance.
I think it has to do with the backpressure which you loose.
Which should mean that the turbo's give less of a boost.

Maybe that is something you are noticing.

What application do you use?

Pretty cool. What application do you use to open flaps?

If you feel power loss without measuring it you might have a much larger problem. Exhaust flaps will not impact either way the power of the vehicle due to the design of the actual muffler. You still have CATs and resonator and muffler that is what supplies any sort of back pressure.

This is not true, free flow on a turbo increases the power allowing more exhaust to spin your turbo increasing the amount of air forced into the intake.

Is there a way to do this without an app? Set the car on auto hold and transmission in sportsmode to open the flap?

It's all been done and done before: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1603977, https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1566875, and there are other past threads.

It should be the same for G06 x40i. Carly is not favoured around here, but Bimmerlink has flap control functionality as well.

Doesn't Bimmerlink require the ODB adapter to be connected all the time in order to turn on/off the flap control?

In other words, once you set it with Bimmerlink to open the flap and then disconnect the OBD adapter doesn't it revert back to factory defaults after you disconnect the ODB adapter?

Yes, of course. Just like Carly which is what was asked. If you want more permanent flap retention, use other methods.

UPDATE: I may be confused about Carly functionality as I don't use it (and I don't use it because there were a large number of reports about, uhm, "optimistic marketing of capabilities" in the past). But permanent flap open is not a coding option, it is rather a real-time control over OBDII. Or the various mechanical methods: fuse pull at the right time, control cable pull at the right time, spring unclip and flap open tie-off.

Not that Ive seen. Easiest way to disable permanently is use BimmerLink and obd adapter to open exhaust valve. Then go pull fuse. Done. Now exhaust will always be open, even after restarts, etc., until you put the fuse back in. That's how I did mine. Couple thousand miles now, and valve is still open, and no issues.

fyi, you dont need the bimmerlink app or have anyone jump in the trunk to pull a fuse, lol.... you can either remove fused or disconnect the plug at the exhaust when the car is off. (the flap is in the open position when car is off).
I have bimmerlink and was just playing around to see the difference, to find out that flap is open when the car is off. flaps closes when car starts. I believe it opens up again while driving up to certain mph.

Also, dont know much difference with the flap open. it might be slightly louder at startup, thats about it.

I noticed when you remote start the vehicle both exhaust tips are open and there is quite a difference in sound. As opposed to starting the vehicle inside using the push button as this only opens the one flap.

Hey man, did you leave your exhaust flap open and disconnected like you posted here? If so any downside to doing so?
Thanks

The engine takes a bit longer to fully warm up which means the computer will keep it richer in order to warm up the catalytic converter. The introduction of a catalytic converter actually drops efficiency, but improves emissions.

FWIW, a restriction in the airflow causes what exhaust volume there is to flow faster. Opening up the flap helps on wide open throttle, but it will get there on its own once it's warmed up and you trounce on it. Look up Bernoulli’s Principle. So, the initial spool up of the turbo should help with it closed until it starts to impact the ability of the gasses to get expelled by the increased friction...that's when the flap opens.

Personally, I prefer it to be quiet, especially on a long trip! To each their own.

Good explanation, I think I will just leave it alone.
Thank you
