Remote Control Parking

I have the BMW display key as part of the innovation package and it has (according to the picture) the button on the top right that is needed to initiate Remote Control Parking. Does this mean this feature is enabled by default or can I activate it through coding? Or is this again something that is country specific?

I haven't seen any mention of remote control parking since the 7 and 5 series. I love it on my M550i for those few times where someone jammed me in a parking space or when I returned to find my car parked in a puddle of water after a bit of rain.

We ordered our 2020 X5 yesterday and if RC parking is available then I'll be super excited but I suspect BMW has abandoned it - for now.

It must be hidden away in the ECUs somewhere...

Not a supported option for an X5.

The code is 5DV and cannot be added to FA.

There are a number codes available across a few ECU's but I doubt they will work.

They advertise it on the BMW.BE website as a feature on some models, and since the X5 has so much technology on board I assumed it would also be available for it.

I'm sure the car has the hardware on board so I hope we can unlock it through coding.

If you can't add it to the FA, I wouldn't even go near it in coding.

You could try it, but its probably doomed to failure.

I'd start by generating the codes needed for a supported model such as the 5 series. There is no FA support and therefore no boolean logic to identify any G05 specific codes so it will almost certainly fail:
- not supported in the firmware/i-step
- never coded or tested by BMW for this model
- could even be dangerous. The G05 is a big vehicle, can most people even fully see where they are reversing it from outside the car?

You're a brave soul if you try coding it. I would be worried about insurance claims or other liabilities if something goes wrong.

"Brave" would only apply when there is NO RISK to OTHERS' wellbeing and property, only to yours. Entirely other words come to mind for this. While it's not impossible to hack around this safely, very few have the capability and mental discipline to do so (I include myself somewhere in the grey zone for this). The impact of stupid hacking is that all hacking is terminated in society i.e. "this is why we can't have nice things".

I just can't imagine how deep you would have to dig into that. However, BMW abandoning it doesn't mean much since their software team is not top notch. I feel like some of the folks on here should be on that team!

BMW abandoning means A LOT! We're not reprogramming here, "coding" is just adjusting a couple parameters in existing software to enable and disable features. Those features better be fully operational and exhaustively tested if safety is involved and that has nothing to do with coding and is 10s of orders of magnitude removed from real software engineering required.

Here's my problem. If BMW knows there are issues with their software development and in real world application...why don't they fix it? I have no problem waiting for something if it's done right. But this whole fix one thing break 2 others is really unacceptable from BMW. I know we are beating a dead horse with all of these issues, but I am a little irritated that purchased a vehicle under the premises key features would be available and working. I've never seen such a crap show of a job with zero transparency. So do the people who have the 5 and 7 series cars with this feature have it? Or did BMW just blast it from their cars? That would piss me off more than the remote software updates, since it is a pretty neat feature.

PS...now you see why I need "Coding for Dummies"...I have no clue about 99.999999% of this realm.

For this feature, at least they didn't advertise it and then not deliver it. I don't want to defend BMW (at all, they don't deserve it), but let's compartmentalize things a bit — let's be pissed about advertised features that are not delivered and the bugs/bad design of what is delivered, rather than something we want but wasn't promised :-).

LexxM3 Ha, sorry...I am sour and just pissed in general. At the end of the day, these are all minuscule problems in regards to real world problems. As long as I have my music and get from Point A to B, I am good! Oh, and saved ASS function!

I don't think that's what it's supposed to be for this model. It may be worth contacting your dealer to find out if an additional device or program has been developed.

Sunroof is an interesting idea, but the roof panels on the X5 are less than paper thin. Pretty sure a medium-sized bird sitting on the roof would dent or at least compress it. Don't lean on it.

I’ll do a mission impossible and spread myself out to increase surface area and reduce weight. I think I saw that in myth buster.

I have use the tailgate method before. Parked the wrong way in the garage and didn’t back in like usual. It was cool the first time.

I wonder what trick he will use to get it back out of the spot.

Craziness, although it did not seem to go that fast. I always crap myself at the speed it seems to go when self parking.
