I called BMW Genius yesterday. My 45e ordered on 9/28 is scheduled for week 45, Nov 2 for production. The guy I spoke with said that only a limited number of vehicles are impacted by the recall and that future production is not impacted

I have a 45e that completed production on Oct 3 (I think it was week 41) and has NOT been delivered yet. I have been able to download the manual for the past two weeks. I am taking delivery tomorrow and there is no indication there is any issue with this vehicle. I ran the VIN against the recall database (BMW's and federal) and nothing is flagged. |

Why would they? This is an amazing vehicle with great technology and - to me - the best of both worlds. They got extremely unlucky with the battery contamination and quite frankly a few questions will need to be asked regarding the QA process, but I'm pretty sure the folks in Munich will get this under control and rectify the situation for all affected customers (including myself). Imho pulling the model would be an overreaction with disastrous pr

Very few companies, if any, build every part in their vehicle. While sample testing by BMW I'm sure is done, they rely on their vendors to hold up their end that they are providing reliable parts. BMW does check each vehicle coming off of the line, but that is not a long-term test. So, until some end up in the customer's hands, a problem after the initial development period where they are long-term testing could go unnoticed until something comes up. Give them a break...BMW did not make the batteries.
Once the problem has been identified, it can take some time to develop a fix that is reliable, and then to actually implement it. You can hold BMW accountable for not maybe letting affected people the status, but sometimes, you cannot just pinpoint a schedule of when the investigation, test, and verification will be done. Frustrating to all involved including BMW and Samsung. |

Hi guys, just to give you few information from Serbia. I received a call from my dealer and they were quite upset! Since I was in the middle of a journey, they asked me NOT to charge my vehicle, to put battery control on 30% and NOT to use in any case my paddle shifts on steering wheel (anyone knows why???).
After the journey, I came to the dealer and Post-sales manager had a talk with me and gave me BMW 7 as a replacement while they check out what will BMW do. They expect news from BMW by Wednesday next week. I feel very uncomfortable to get my car back and to put it on charger in my garage, even if they guarantee that it was all just a joke. Not sure what to do... I’ve been waiting for my car to be delivered for 195 days... Besides this situation, I can say that this is the best car currently on the market!!! |

the battery faster. Review everything that has been written. Only very few cars have been affected but all have to be checked. So if they do the test and it is ok I think you shouldn't worry too much. |

Nope, that's a vin for a 45e currently in production targeted for completion on Oct 23rd and numerous other folks with the same timeframe are getting the same response ... very odd, that's for sure.

It could just mean that cars that are yet to be produced are not in the reference database for the manual retrieval query even if they have a vin assigned.

Even before the recalls, you couldn't get the manual for your VIN for a bit until it had been released...I looked on my local dealer's lot, found a 45e they had, copied the VIN and downloaded that one. I haven't done a file compare, but expect they are identical.

My 45e is in transit, and I was able to plug the VIN in and get the manual. Not sure how long it will take to get to CA from the east coast. I ordered 8/31.

I ordered 8/30... I called BMW genius today and was told the car will arrive in Richmond, CA on 10/26. Then it will take another few days before it gets to the dealer's lot.

For what it is worth, when I ordered one of the first 4 series cars in the country back in 2013, BMW USA website listed the gross vehicle weight (something like 4600 lbs) as the curb weight (which was around 3800 lbs or so) of the car. Today they are listing the electric motor torque at 77 lbs ft (which is clearly inaccurate as the car can get up to 85 mph on EV power and it weighs over 5500 lbs), when BMW Germany lists it at 196 lbs ft. In my opinion someone at BMW USA IT department messing something up is a more likely explanation than BMW killing or drastically changing a 4-month-old model due to a temporary component defect. |

In the US, there's a limit on how long you can keep a MY in production, so, the 2021 X5 45e being introduced in June of this year, cannot be sold as a 2021 for much past next fall before it would be designated a 2022. I don't see them dropping the 2021 soon, and if you were to call it a 2022 now, you'd have to introduce a 2023 way before the end of 2022...
