I know the M versions have a darker grille. I selected the illuminated grille option on the build tool, but to me it just looks like chrome "in the picture." Can anyone verify what color it is (any in person pictures)?

Sorry for the repost but wanted to have others weigh in, as I probably have to make the decision today. I'm torn between the illuminated grille (that I think is stain silver) vs gloss black (no illumination) on the carbon black exterior color?

I know I know - personal preference. I haven't been able to find pictures with the illuminated grille in carbon black. Anyone care to weigh in haha??

Found a few in carbon black WITH the illuminated grille (which does look like it's a "satin silver" color). I see this with it lit up and it looks GREAT.

Maybe I just need to get the exhaust tips in gloss black aftermarket and call it a day!

I forgot about this. Would love to see more pics from anyone else who has this dialed in on their ride. Its tough call and its something maybe I need to see in person but when I see MBz which logo lit up on front grill I immediately think fast and furious lol

Cannot order illuminated in black. Only silver. Choosing illuminated removes black in configurator.
Only option is to order illuminated and paint in black.
Btw, I think that combo would look great!

This is the grille on my own car. I can confirm it is satin silver, not chrome.

It's never going to be to everyone's taste, but I love it and certainly turns heads!

Agreed. Personally think jus the dark grill looks more imposing and more “BMW”. The illuminated looks aftermarket.

FWIW, the illuminated grille is not an option I'd select ... For me, vehicle lights are tools vs extraneous decoration.

The illuminated grille comes in satin chrome (or satinated aluminium as BMW call it). I have it on my car and personally love it.

On those vehicle it simply broadcasts that you have the "Poverty Package" because you cannot have the illuminated star if you have the driving packages and other features.

Which driving packages can not be had with it? Our X6M50i has the dynamic handling package,

I was referring to MB. They put the sensors (etc) in the emblem. If it illuminates you don't have ACC/Distronic or any of those other options/packages.

My car came with the illuminated grille - it was a stock car so I didn't have the choice. I ended up just getting the OEM black grille and swapping it out.

First, I tried a mix n match - using the black frame from the black grille but keeping the illuminated silver slats. Eventually though, I just wanted the all black look.

I liked the lighting, but I just don't like silver. The black grille, though missing the lighting, looks better to me personally. I'm sure BMW will release a black illuminated grille soon, in which case I already have the lighting wiring in place for it...

Is there a way to paint (or plasti dip with the gloss) the inside slats? Where did you get the gloss back front grille...ebay?

Oh - and nice job getting a pic of the man mowing his driveway

You could paint the slats - you'd just have to tape up the lights good.

I got the OEM grille from the dealer.
