Just bought the Drive Recorder App on Connected Drive. I did it online on my Connected Drive Account via the CD Store.

Then in the car I just updated Apps, and it appeared - very easy and smooth.

I'll definitely be taking out a long term subscription on this one once my 1st month is over.

In terms of number plates, I'll have a go at recording in dense traffic, but there's no reason it shouldn't pickup and record readable plates.

Thanks for the update. This is much appreciated. If they can work out a parking mode in the future like Tesla's sentry mode it'd be the end of aftermarket dashcam until they make the next innovation.

If you press and hold the ‘camera’ button it will trigger a recording, providing the app hasn’t crashed

It's a great function. Got it with my executive package. My app used to crash every time I start up, but it hasn't crashed even once for whatever reason now. I didn't update my software since I got the X5 and still on 7/2019.55.
It'll be cool if someone can take all the footage and make a 40 second 3D view movie.

Check you Connected Drive Store online - via your Connected Drive Account.

I think this feature might have some dependency on your vehicle and features/options installed - as the Connected Drive seems to point towards "availability for your car".

I don't think you can as this is an app. Instead, I have configured my home screen to include drive recorder. This serves two purposes, one it will show you if it has crashed (it will appear greyed out - restart iDrive in that case) and secondly you can trigger manual recording just by tapping on screen.
BTW, the 11/2019.40 update seems to have fixed the crashing of Drive Recorder. I have been using/monitoring since mine was upgraded in mid-December and so far no crashes 🤞🏼

Guys , how did you update Apps ? I just ordered Drive recorder. I dissapear frkm Apps which can be purchased , and now I have it in the list of ordered Apps. But when I go to Apps screen , there id no icon named Drive recorder. I have all he needed, and mh sw is 11/2019.40 . So looks like latest sw. Thanks

Btw , I can record only 10 record ( 40 s ) . Is it joke ? Less than 7 minutes. 100k Euro car ??? LOL

Btw, If you will buy it in different bmw connected drive store ( for example Belgium ) , and then you will re-register you car in another country ( another region ), your drive recorder will disappear !!! Imagine, Slovakia and Belgium are different region. I hate BMW more and more.

Yes, with all 4 cameras enabled and max pre- and post-trigger recording configured, it is 10 recordings at 40 seconds each. If this was a normal dash cam setup, that would be ridiculously low. But DR is not really a dash cam, it is rather just an moving accident recorder. How many accidents do you plan to be in before downloading and clearing the recordings? :-)

Is anyone else experiencing problems with the connecteddrive site in the US? Once you log in, it gives an error about loading your vehicle.

Seems you can't purchase Drive Record by picking it, you need the vehicle to load, only then can you select the app.

Seems to be broken since they started replacing the roundel logo.

Wait, you see Drive Recorder on your CD Site? I don't have issues logging in, but noticed some of my extensions on Firefox kill the site. Do you have a 2020 or 2019?

Question Can someone clarify pricing please?

So confused about the pricing, hoping someone can help clarify.

I just purchased the X5 40i for June 2020 production (so excited).

As part of the Canadian Premium Enhanced Package, it included the BMW Recorder. Does this mean that I don't need to pay anything more, ever again to use it? Or does it mean it's included upto some trial period (like the other BMW Connected Apps like real time traffic, etc)?

So confused. Thanks in advance.

They finally fixed my CD access. It's available on the site for my 2019.
$149 for lifetime or you can pay 1 year or 3 year.

Was waiting for this one as I Have an X5 x40I M-Sport 2019 loaded with 3D view and much more...

Then when I want to buy the Drive Recorder I get the message Service Not available.... Seriously its a ~US$80k car from 2019!!! This is a complete joke.

I had a few 5 series over the years so wanted to "upgrade" to the X5 but this is the worse car ever, complete down grade, this iDrive 7 constantly screws up, and does not recognize the FOB key there is coming close to the car. Often it says the FOB Key is not in the car even that it is. I guess I need to find a good service place as the local one is hopeless.

Have to admit if it wasn't because we have the covid 19 situation, I would sell the car as it's getting a bigger and bigger disappointment just standing in the garage and non of us want to drive it we use the Merc as it works everytime. -The X5 got 3.5k miles on the clock and 8 months old....
