Two things I would check.

- Keyfob battery. I had issues with the key unlocking and being recognized. The dealer just swaps the battery and haven’t had any issues.

- Check your software version. You might need a higher software before the option is available to you. If you’re not on 2020 version, that might be why.

That makes sense, will for sure get that done.

Just checked the ConnectedDrive Portal on my computer and it says version 11-19 and the app on my iPhone says "No upgrade available" -Remote Software Upgrade. Also checked in the infotainment system, and same response on no update available.

So there is a 2020 version, where do you get that one?

I doesn't show up on my CD and I think I have all the hardware. This is a first generation custom ordered 2019.

When you say "they" do you mean your dealer or simply that BMW updated your CD?

just downloaded it on my computer and it popped up on my car. set up was easy. i did the one month free trial, but i'll probably purchase the one year subscription

I had to scroll down to Apps for Connected Drive. The feature is also now listed for me but says unavailable for my vehicle. I'm on July 2019 release so this could be why.

I successfully got trial to work...tested and seems to work great! Wish there was more flexability in recording but I'll take what I can get. Def will be adding as purchase when trial runs out.

honestly i would not pay extra, mine came with it as part of the exec package but recording for such a short duration, i got done playing with it after a few times. prob useful for recording accidents (before event) etc...

I would not pay extra - and I actually can't pay extra - because my software is too old - because BMW's OTA software update doesn't work - so I don't have the option to "add on" Drive Recorder - but after BMW F'ed up Apple Car Play subscriptions, I'd be wary of giving them a dime for any subscription... I had to go to the BBB to get my money back after BMW made CarPlay free.

BMW has no clue how to do software. Don't give them (more of) your money to be a beta tester guys...

Checked out my Connected Drive account online and saw/added the Drive Recorder.

To get it to show immediately, in the X5, went to Apps and while over "Installed Apps" I pushed Options (physical button by your iDrive controller) and hit Update Apps.

After a quick install, the Drive Recorder Icon appeared and I went through the setup.

I have it set to record manually (when the panoramic camera button is held down) and also automatically (when it detects an accident). 20 seconds before and after for a maximum total of 40 seconds per recording.

Tested this out right away and I'm happy with it. I'll have to check it out during some night driving, but here are some interesting observations I've already made:

1) It said during setup that you would get the best recording quality if you were recording only two cameras at a time instead of all four.

2) If you record while you have Park Assist enabled with surround view on, it will capture exactly what you're seeing on screen. This includes the backup camera and the overhead view along with parking and maneuvering lines moving around.

3) If you export to a USB drive, the video is in MPEG-4 format, 1280x960 resolution at 15 frames per second.

4) It also exports a text file encoded in JSON (per video) which contains the date, time, speed and latitude/longitude.

I cannot figure out the correct format for the thumb drive. I have a USB 3.0 32GB drive and tried formatting in both ExFAT and FAT32...any suggestions? Only have Macs, so I hope it isn't NTFS.

mine are formated FAT32 and work just fine.

Hm. Have your tried, as a test, putting a couple of MP3s on that flash drive and playing them in the car? Are you plugging this drive in the front console USB A plug or the "elbow box" USB C plug?

I used both exFAT and FAT32 without issue for all of this, including DR export. I am sure it's something (ultimately) simple.

For point 1. I was wondering too what would be best.

1 or two cameras recording in a higher definition or all four of them in a lower definition.

I have chosen all 4. I am afraid if something needs to be recorded it will be on the wrong camera and missed (Murphy's law).

Unlimited/Onetime Subscription

Hi All,

Does anyone know if any subscriptions which are sold as onetime/unlimited remains with the vehicle or is it tied to your own My BMW account so each time it changes hands these services need to be purchased again?

I too suspect it is tied to your My BMW account but just cant any info on it. It would give BMW the opportunity to charge over and over again for a service that is initially sold as unlimited.

If it is tied to your BMW account, one would assume that service will be available for your next car without additional costs as these services are enabled for your BMW account? I suspect not
