New X6 Ordered

Hello - New to the forum and new to BMW cars. I have an X6 on order and it's due in sometime in February. We are coming out of a 2020 Lincoln Navigator so its going to be a big change loosing all they roominess of the Navigator but think its totally worth it for the X6 looks!

I have always been a Ford/Lincoln guy but was disappointed with what they had to offer. I was going to just lease another Navigator but the price had gone up $500 more per month and it has less tech now than mine and the new 2024 look identical to what I have. So decided to jump ship and try a BMW. Hoping I don't regret it. So far the experience has been fine with the exception that the X6's aren't really discounted in my area and since I ordered it the dealer wouldn't budge off the MSRP.

I am surprised by the lack of X6 posting. Besides the loss of cargo space over the X5 is there any other significant reason folks aren't buying X6's???

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your order. Give Genus a call with your production number and they can give you your production week. About two weeks prior to that you will go into the Production Begins status and you will be able to use the "F12" process to get your actual assembly date. Production Begins does not mean that assembly has started but that a VIN has been assigned and parts ordered/allocated.

I think the way it looks is a big reason for so few X6s being sold. It is an acquired taste but once you have it seems like you are hooked.

I am a happy owner of an X5M60 and a longtime X5 supporter. My wife used to drive an X6.. Besides the unpracticality of the cargo, I always faced difficulties getting in the second row (I'm 6.1). My head always hit the car. Moreover, I felt more spacious in the X5.

andernela......Thats odd I'm 6'3" and sat in the back with no real issue but not a place I'd like to spend a lot of time in. But I get it, when we sat in the X5 it definitely felt more spacious. We only have one kid that needs to fit back there and she's only 5' 3".

If they have an allocation then they should be able to provide a production number as soon as the order is entered. If they can't provide you one then they are just putting the request in the order bank and it will be fulfilled in the future when they get an allocation to do so. In other words, if they can't give you a production number then you don't have an order.

Congratulations on the order! You’ll love the X6 and the extra attention it gets on the road. I have a Brooklyn Grey and I’ve gotten complements from random people in the parking lots.

I prefer X6 styling over X5. To me, the X5 looks too flat and boxy from behind. The rear seats are a lot more spacious on the X5 though, but we don’t have any kids and no one really rides in the rear seats other than the occasional road trip with friends. No one has complained so far about the rear seat comfort tho.

Congrats! We also have an X6 on order, production week one or two (see details below). It’s for my wife, who had an X4 some time ago and, like me, strongly prefers the X4/X6’s more sporty exterior to that of the X3/X5. Hoping for delivery in late January or early February, and also hoping that the BMW incentives remain identical or similar to the current incentives.

My wife was the one who saw an X6 on the road and started this ball rolling. After seeing one in person I was very impressed by the styling and looking forward to something less SUV looking and a bit more sporty. We are calling it her mid-life crises car.

We also looked at the X4 and it was a tough choice. We thought it might be way too small coming out of a Navigator. Not that the X6 is huge by any means but at least a bit closer. Can't wait to drive our X6!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your order. I think the smaller number of X6s in the road is due to its shape and the second row/cargo room. For the same amount or less you get more space in X5. That being said, my wife and I both have always loved the looks of X6 ever since the first gen. I have no doubt you'll enjoy the ride/vehicle once you receive it. All the best.

I reached out to my salesman and he said the GM should have an allocation for me by the end of the week. Kinda odd, he made it sound like he really had to "sell" getting my car priority to his GM.

Thanks and congrats as well. Same situation here. It's for my wife and her mid life crises. I'll keep my F150, Mustang and BWM K1600B (motorcycle) as my mid life crises vechilces!

Unfortunately that is what I thought may be the case. Keep in mind that your delay has no control over whether they do get an allocation and whether it goes to you. If they have other orders in the order bank then they will get the allocation in order that they were entered. Hopefully they don't have any others and that they get an X6 allocation this week or next.

I usually recommend to folks in your situation to go to other dealers and see if they have an allocation and if they will match or beat the deal. Since allocations should be given out within a week or so you may want to hold off until next week before doing that.

Thanks so much for this info. Does this allocation process only apply to X6's? I can see a "real" M or Competition having limited allocation but mine just has the M Sport pkg.

My Sales guy did show me all the orders they have into BMW and there was only 1 other X6 on the list of 100+ cars they had on order. So if they say we/I don't have an allocation I should reach out to another dealership??

All vehicles need to have an allocation in order for them to be ordered and built. Given that they already have someone with an X6 in the order bank I would suggest you start reaching out to other dealers now. There are always much fewer X6 allocations than X5 so in theory your dealer may only get one so you would have to wait another month to try and get an order. You can always reach out to others and see what they have to offer.

@froman6: What your salesman may be saying is that the GM or someone else at that dealership is shopping around for another dealer's X6 allocation and would try to trade another model allocation (X5 or something else) for that X6 allocation. That's what my low-volume dealer did so as to get our X6 built in the next week or two.

I love the X6 styling! I would have another, but they are about 10% more expensive for the same features as an X5.

The X6 isn't the sensible choice from a financial or practicality point of view - that's partly why I bought one; there will always be less of them on the road.

We pay more, we get less load space, BUT we get a more exclusive vehicle, sportier looks and feeling, and a few little touches that the X5 doesn't get. There are a couple of interior changes from the X5 and that combined with the coupe-ness make it feel quite different to sitting in an X5.
