just picked up my 2024 x5m and I would say I think everyone is crazy for the deal they are making over the "over stiffness" and "uncomfortable ride". Had the 2022 x5 m50i before this. I find the current 24 M to be totally fine - you can feel vibration more so if there were multiple cracks in the road all at once, but otherwise I would never even pick out the suspension being too stiff. Actually going over speed bumps in particular are more soft feeling... its the small cracks it feels more, not the big ones which is interesting.

The Cayenne is lighter and feels so but I felt the interior quality and tech were a few steps down (disappointing to me as I own 2 other Porsches). I also don’t love the 4 wheel steering which makes the car feel less predictable to me - I must not be alone as Porsche dumped it on their 911ST.

If ride quality and handling are both of the utmost importance I would recommend a Taycan (Sporturismo) over any of these SUVs. They ride better and handle better than any of them. If the cargo space was a little larger I’d own one.

My daily is a Taycan Cross Turismo 4S.

You are a man of great taste sir! I think you own the best all-around daily driver. The X5M comp is similar to the Taycan in sport mode but slightly firmer.

Well, a woman of good taste. One of the few on the boards.

Not rude at all, most people on car forums are dudes. Thanks, I love cars and possibly save my husband money by buying them instead of caring about shoes, clothes and hand bags.

Ended up putting in an order for an XM base. SA had no idea when an allocation for an X5M Competition would come up, and he had a configurable XM allocation. Was able to negotiate 13% off MSRP on the order, which makes the price delta much better. Thanks for everyone’s help with this question.

Congrats on the XM. The more I see it the more I like it. Should be a sweet ride.

13% off, so pretty good. My 2020 Cayenne lost 58% of it’s value in just under 4 years, the used market is correcting quite a bit.

All of the luxury SUVs depreciate a lot...sedans too. They are, after all, luxury items. Sadly 911s and Rolexes have established the expectation that such items are investments...ruining them for the people that enjoy actually using them.

The XM will be sweet. The interior looks great. The styling is aggressive and will grow on people - 1000000000x better than the iX IMO. Drive it in good health!

If you do not mind, specifically what is it that you did not like about the 2024 r s q 8?

I previously owned a 2020 M5 competition vehicle and loved it--though the exterior was a bit boring. Yesterday I test drove a brand new 2024 X5MC. Over local surface streets with an uneven texture the ride was horrible. These were not streets with Extremely bad surfaces , but instead smooth roads with a little asphalt patching. Even the center lane divider bumps upset the ride. And yes this was on comfort setting for everything with the dealer representative in the car. While I would like sporty aspects in the car, I already have a sports car. This suv needs a sporty ride it also needs a reasonably comfortable ride On the comfort settings.

Sounds like you need an M60. The X5MC is a firm riding car. At low speeds the ride is more pronounced; it softens up quite a bit above 60MPH. The RSQ8 definitely rides smoother but doesn’t handle nearly as well in comfort mode. Tire pressure can make a big difference on the X5MC. If you were riding at 44-44 PSI the ride would be much better at a still reasonable 39 PSI.

Might have nailed it: The dealer I bought from had the tires above max pressure, not just hard riding, also noisy. Toned right down when I aired them down to the recommended pressures.

Taint soft though, not saying that.

Not sure how crappy your roads are where you are but try 36 front 39 rear if you're running PS4S on 21/22s.

Lol, yeah I aired down before the second test drive.

I actually test drove the X5M first, but decided against it because of the ride and road noise. Then I wandered over to an M8 they had and it was the same; except that time I recognized that the tires were badly overinflated.

Went and got the gauge out of my car and put the M8 to the door specs, which was a big improvement. Decided to go back and look at the X5M and sure enough, 55 a wheel, max tire inflation pressure is 50. Made those right and it was much better and I ended up in that car.

I usually keep my summer tires 38F/40R to have a balance of handling and ride quality. Once the psi is over 40's when the temps rise they feel like riding on bricks and I have to adjust.

I just spoke with the dealer that handled the test drive and asked them to compare the cold tire pressures on the car through the Dash versus the doorjamb recommended tire pressures. Hopefully the tires are over-inflated and this accounted for the harsh ride on surface streets at 25-40 mph.

Thank you for the input!
