Engine braking

This g05 x5 has heavy engine braking. I havent really played with it in sport plus, eco or individual so this is mainly from comfort mode.
I feel like the car brakes itself after i let off the pedal, no brakes applied by me.

It feels a little funny because i dont have full control over it like i do in a manual and it doesnt happen as quick or intense as a motorcycle. But it is definitely there.

I have a sdrive 40i

Hello,

I have the 30D x-drive. I've come out of a 530D sedan. I don't think there is much engine braking in the 30D and was hoping it would have been a little better.

My M50i does it in sport modes pretty noticeably, but not perceptible in comfort.

If you put it in eco it won't brake on the motor so you can compare.

To be fair, the G05 is half-a-tonne heavier than my old E60, with the same size engine. So I shouldn't expect the same performance from engine braking.

Just took the G05 beast on a 500km round trip over the weekend. Plenty of highway driving and hills. I stick to comfort mode, but use the steering wheel paddles to kick down a few gears for engine braking. It works better if you kick down 3 gears and get the engine revving over 3k. The gearbox will hold that gear until you put your foot back on the accelerator, then it changed back to "D" after a few seconds.

The steering wheel paddles are also handy when you need to overtake because you can kick down 2 or 3 gears prior to putting your foot down.

Engine braking is consequence of very restrictive precats.
