BMW 50i - Sport mode / Transmission Sport

Hi guys

Just picked up a new X5 M50i.

I wanted to ask what effect flicking the gear stick in to "S" mode did, does it change just the trasmission changes or does it also make change to the enging / sound etc?

Sometimes when you want that burst of speed, flicking the stick across is the easiest way to do it, rather than glancing down for the Sport button etc.

Thanks

Ok thanks - so when you put it in "Sport" mode by pushing the button, that also changes the engine dynamic or also the gearing?

Sport mode does it all based on the configuration and sub mode (sport regular, individual, plus), S mode on the shifter only modifies the transmission.

What happens if you put the car in Sport Mode and also shift the gear lever to the left?

The only time I flick the lever to the left is when I see traffic ahead slowing down but know it will pick back up momentarily (instead of the brakes). And rare occasion for launch control.

I might be wrong but I believe that it makes the transmission even more sporty and aggressive. At least that’s my feeling (though I’m driving European M50d)
