HUD issues
I realized I posted in the general G05 pages (https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1808093) about my issues with my HUD on my 2021 X5M Comp and I really need help from those here with 2021 X5MCs.
In sum, my HUD has a grey/white 'box' that when the car first starts is not present but as the HUD warms up after ~15 min the grey/white box begins to appear and gets progressively brighter. Dealer says this is normal for a X5MC and is not willing to compare to any other X5 or model. So they said my only option is for them to compare to another 2021 X5MC so I looking for others to help me confirm, with photos if possible that their 2021 X5MC does not have a surrounding grey/white box that is very visible on the HUD. I actually think it is a safety issue as the grey/white box is very distracting at night, but BMW is not budging. Thanks in advance! |

Thanks! I see you have a 2020 X5MC do you see any sort of grey/white box around your HUD?
Also does your speed digits turn red/orange in color if you are going over the speed limit? |

No box, I dont have the truck anymore. But I have several HUDs in other BMWs including 2018 X5M and my 2018 M5. All of them have always been the same. You should just see the information being displayed not the box. The box is the HUD screen and only should show if the brightness and contrast is set too high.

Even though I have the box checked off, my HUD stopped turning red when over the speed limit months ago. BMW has a software problem with the iDrive 7. |

Yes, I recall seeing your responses to my other thread. So your display speed did turn red before? Mine never displayed red since the day I bought it, but I noticed it after picking up a 2021 X7M50i. Dealer is telling me the X5MC does not turn red.

I posted some pics in the other thread here: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1808093
It is a bit difficult to capture in a pic. I now realize I should take a pic at night where it is really obvious to the point I do think it is terribly distracting. |

It's not necessarily a "box" as you are explaining. I think that's the confusion ppl are having. I was confused until I saw your photos in the other thread. What you are noticing is SIGNIFICANT light bleed that is very common on edge lit LCD screens when the brightness is cranked to the max. It is common, but yours seems to venture off into the realm of excessive. Try turning down the brightness first. If it doesn't help, or gets too dim when turning down, dealer should warranty it.

Just checked mine, both in road mode and M mode - no "box" or backlight bleed of any kind. I will check again at night, but I'm pretty sure there isn't any, I'm sensitive to light and I use the dial at night to dim the brightness and shut off all the christmas accent lights as they distract me.
There are no red numbers for the speed limit, but the speed limit icon starts to blink when exceeding the limit, in road mode only. Doesn't blink in M mode. |

After picking my car up from 1200 mile service they rejected my argument and noted normal operation. They told me that they need to compare to another 2021 X5MC and no other model as every model is 'different'. |

Thank you! This is very helpful to confirm my position that the significant light bleed I am experiencing is NOT normal. However, my dealer will probably say the videos you shared are not applicable as it looks like you have a X6M, is that right? They are insisting they need to compare to a 2021 X5MC.

Yes, I have a non comp X6M, but I'm sure the HUD projectors are identical. I also had a 2017 X6M and that did not have any light bleed, and even my aging 2012 X5 HUD doesn't have any light bleed. I'd notice something like that right away. |

Sadly that is exactly what they said. I asked if the dealer could simply go look at any of the other G05s one the lot to compare and they said that they are all different.

that's very weird!!! goto different dealers.
Though I noticed dealers (M certified) somehow appreciate M car customers more, from my own experience, could be just coincidence! |

But I could swear that the actual digits for speed in the HUD would turn red when exceeding the speed limit. Am I mistaken? If so, then why does the iDrive offer that option? |
