I DEFINITELY have these. I have never seen them before and never knew about them (recently moved to North Florida from Atlanta) - I just figured they were just some stupid bug going around. Can these be the bastards that are killing my grass?! This explains why I cannot find fungi symptoms that match mine if so...

I don’t know much about them other than briefly reading the article I posted. The UF extension office should be able to help figure out a plan to remédiate but at least you know you have a pest issue to address. When are you going back to talk to them?

Went in person yesterday, but we’re emailing at this point. Shot over a load of pictures this morning and brought up the spittlebugs. I think you’re dead on with what’s going on. Turf damage descriptions match closer than anything I’ve been able to find. Hope to hear back Monday.

So yes, spittlebugs, but not what is causing the damage. Maybe a slight amount, but nothing to warrant concern. Let 'em ride for now and focus on the real problem: take-all root rot.

Got with my buddy that owns a pro pesticide and herbicide distribution company and he sent me over a 30lb bag of granules with 0.31% Azoxystrobin and 0.75% Propiconazole after working with the horticulture department over at UF. Just finished spreading at about 3.75 lb / 1000 sq ft with a gentle rain coming down as I was finishing up. Perfect application

Let's see how she do!

Curious as to what you guys are using for weed prevention. I've tried a few with no luck and also used weed barrier and even then they'll still pop through.

Hmm I'll have to look into that. I got so frustrated with the amount of rain here in FL this summer that I didn't even both pulling the weeds .

One thing that I have yet to try is using vinegar. I've heard mixed reviews about it.

I tried that and the results was my lawn smelled like vinegar and the dandelions were blooming like saying FU to me

on that note my lawn is growing ridiculously tall and i'm suppose to wait 31 days before the 1st mow. it's only been 9 days

Soil temps finally below 85 for the past week so applied pre-emergent and pest control to lawn and fertilized it. Also fertilized gardenia and provided them some systemic pest control, probably for the last time in 2020. Palms need to be trimmed soon and was looking at the Live Oaks debating whether I need to get them pruned this year or next. (They are making a big mess with acorns right now.)

In early November, wife and I will probably plant some annuals in pots scattered throughout the beds. Need some color, at least until temps spike and kills them late next Spring.

I got beans, peas, and carrots sprouting. Bok Choy, arugula, and mixed lettuce we are eating from the fall crop already. Last of the beefsteak are hanging from nearly dead vines.

Seeding w/o aerating, yes or no?

Can't find an aerator to rent, all are always rented out. Had the yard aerated this spring.

Can you find a drag rake? Seed with supplemental soil/sand to cover said seeds and level the surface.

Wait, yard, or baseball YARD?

The seed will want contact w/ dirt/soil to germinate. The preceding 2 posts give 2 options for that. Slit seeding (yeah, yeah...) is another option. It just depends on your goal w/ seeding. I have some thin areas but am post-poning aerating and overseeding the lawn until spring.

I have some bare spots along the street and driveway where the grass isn't going to fill in on its own. After mowing a little lower (grass looks like crap now...lol), I raked out dead stuff, fertilized, then threw down some sand in some low spots (to raise them) then top soil. Overseeded by hand and lightly raked the seed into the soil. Afterwards, I covered these areas with a light layer of sphagnum peat moss. The peat will help keep in moisture as well as protect the ungerminated seeds, especially this time if year when a random frost may occur (depending where you live).

By that same token, if you expect temps to be cold later in Oct or Nov, you'll want to get cracking. The grass seed will need time to germinate and get strong enough to survive winter (again, depending on where you live).

i wont have a chance to do anything to the lawn when i move in maybe Nov/Dec.
definitely will start next year when spring arrives.
i do need to level certain spots, some trees were removed.
mixture of soil and sand to level bad areas.
not sure what homedepot has for seeding and fertilizers
