New to racing - First race ever, ALMS! Questions:

Just got tix for the ALMS race in CT. It's my first race event and I can't wait. What are some good things to know before the race? I was really interested in Grand-Am racing because of Turner Motorsport and some of the other BMW teams. Just did a quick search and came across the ALMS racing series.

What other racing events feature our Bimmers?

I think there is a Riley BMW in the Rolex Series, but it is a Daytona Prototype. In the WTCC there are several BMW E90s w/ a 2.0 L I4 I believe. BMW plans (or already has) released a GT3 version of the M3, which is pretty much for more amateur racers interested in racing in GT3 (I think it's part of the FIA GT series).

I'll be heading to Lime Rock next weekend myself as well Check out the ALMS website for the rules, but the biggest difference between ALMS and most other racing is that there are 4 different classes of cars running on the track at the same time. So you will see the Audi TDIs blowing by the M3s and Acura prototypes whooping up on Corvettes....it's pretty awesome.

It's a great time at Lime Rock and remember, the coolest thing about ALMS is that before the race starts, they let the entire crowd down to the track to check out the cars. It's part of the charm of ALMS.

I do enjoy the AMLS and you can certainly get close to the cars and drivers. This is last year at Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta.

I've been going to the event for years, it was just last year that my daughters (her twin sister refused to get in the picture) were old enough to attend. Quite fun!!!

I've been to the Long Beach Grand Prix twice and can never get over the fact of how loud or fast the cars are. I really like the Lola-Mazda prototypes.

I don't remember what the Lolas sound like. The American cars though... probably the sweetest V8's on the planet.

Ferrari F430 GT2s have an annoying sound.

I want to be able to hear when I'm 60+. The constant loud noise at a race will damage your hearing a little bit at a time.

You can still hear with plugs in, it just reduces the decibels.

Very true. I will be wearing ear plugs too. I took a class on the damage you can do to your ears during a Skip Barber National race weekend.
