Most (and least!) important options for MY23

Have a mid-September build slot for a 45e (hopefully shouldn't have any issues getting delivery before year end even if things get delayed a little bit to still get the full tax credit!) and my first time ordering custom.

Are there any particular options that people view as "must haves" or "safe to avoid" in the current set of choices? A few of the ones that I'm particularly wondering about (or already set on):

Parking Assistance Package - Live in LA so this is a must have for me, have an older version of it on my X3 and my wife has a new version on her 5 series.

Driving Assistance Professional Package? - This is one I'm particularly on the fence about as I'm not sure what it has/doesn't have vs standard safety features? Also, does this require Executive Package?

Wireless Charging - At first was excited by this one, but the more I read about it seems like BMW's implementation is spotty at best so maybe one to skip?

HUD - Sounds cool, but as a dedicated Apple Carplay user (lets be honest, a major reason I want to trade up from my X3 to an X5 is to get Apple Carplay after using it in my wife's car regularly) my understanding is that this doesn't do much when in Carplay.

Id rank them as follows:

DAP is a must have
HUD is a second must have
PAP is pretty cool
Wireless Charging is convenient but not a huge deal

Must haves:
Heated Front Seats (area dependent)
M Sport Package w/ Extended Shadowline Trim
Parking Assistance Package

The rest are not really needed IMO.

Hi, we have a similar build slot. DAPP was a must for us, but really just for the adaptive cruise control.
We also got a tow hitch because they are nigh on impossible to get installed after market with electronic control. Even if you might only use it for a cargo carrier or a bike rack, it's a money saver to get it done at the factory.
My dad got a 45e a few weeks ago and trying to get an after market hitch has been expensive and frustrating.

DAP: I didn't get this on my 2019 X5 40i and regretted it. The 2019 was totalled so I did get it on my replacement 2021 X5 45e and LOVE the feature on longer freeway drives. I would definitely look for this feature on any new car purchase moving forward.

PAP: also love this feature. Often use the automated backup feature to back out of driveways, etc. I would definitely get this package on future purchases as well.

HUD: another must have. HUD also provides some functionality when used with CarPlay.

Wireless charging: I have this and use it often, but this wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if it was not available.

Tow Hitch: as stated above, if you foresee using a hitch even for limited use, get the factory hitch

Thanks for the thoughts so far all!

I'm coming around to getting DAP if I can get it without having to get executive. The utility is there for $1700 for me, just not sure if I see it for $5300 since it looks like it has to be paired with Exec Package (which is a bunch of stuff I don't care about or actively don't want (like the glass shifter)).

Could have sworn that a few weeks ago it was letting me select it independently but now is making me grab Exec.

My CA told me that requiring the Exec Package bundle with DAP is new for MY23, so that would make sense if you were previously building a MY22. I tried hard to get DAP ala carte and was not able to do so. Eventually decided to get it anyway as it was my spouse's #1 priority.

Makes sense (even if it isn't the answer I was hoping for).

100% for DAP. Helps a lot on highways and traffic jams (works really well). For a car this price it is a small amount to add to me a useful feature.

Parking assistant over driving assistant?

What do you get with parking assistant that's so darn great?

I believe the Parking Assistance package has the Surround View w 3D View, Parking Assistant Plus (self park), and Drive Recorder. Without it, you still get the rear view camera (but no surround view) and park distance control sensors.

Have you ever had to get out of the car to see if you were close enough to the curb, or not hugging the parking stripe, or not too close (or far) from the car parked in front, or backed into a space and had to readjust three times to center properly?

If "no," then you don't need PAP.

Doesn’t wireless charging also include some sort of signal boost?

For a car that size, 360-view is essential and will probably pay itself over time (no bumper/rim scratches). There's also this feature that allows the car to reverse drive automatically. I use this every time I back out of my long (tight) garage. It's pretty amazing technology that I didn't know I needed.

I go on long road trips only 2-3 times a year so not sure I would say Driving Assistant is a must have.

Get all that your budget allows, there are options you probably won't use but if you don't have options that you wish you had it is far worse. Also makes selling an X5 easier and worth more.

Same.

I use PAP every day - the 360 cameras are invaluable and I use the panoramic side view every time I leave my drive as the neighbour's bush blocks my view of the road to the right. It is my most used feature after the stereo.

DAP is of next to no use to me as I am on inner city roads 99% of the time. I do maybe 1 or 2 motorway journeys a year.

For others it may be the complete opposite, as they would use/need DAP much more than PAP.

The 'most important' package is going to be entirely dependent on how a person uses their car.

Don’t forget about backup assist. A true must! I love the self parking for parallel parking in Chicago too.

Wireless Charging is trash. Not worth the $500, even with the LTE booster.

Disagree. I've been using it on my new M50i, works well to keep the phone topped up and not drain during long CarPlay sessions w/ all the stuff going (music, nav, etc.).

Phone doesn't get too hot either, the space is pretty wide open compared to a lot of other models. It works well.

Assume you have an iPhone? What model and what case do you use (if any)?

Yep! 13 Pro Max, and I use a first-party Apple Silicone case, no issues!

Exactly, those Apple products are power hogs.
