Hi all, new here, new to BMW, and new to the X5 as I just picked up mine last week. Found this forum by googling the exact topic you're talking about.
I wonder if the problem is Bluetooth on the phone itself. I just looked at my phone this morning after driving and saw it said it was having problems connecting - while it was connected and the X5 had no problem seeing it. Anybody seeing that on their P8P while having no issues connecting? |

I reached out to Google support again today. Both times they have confirmed it is not enabled yet and it is coming on a future release. They also said "Since Pixel 8 pro comes with a powered gemini Ai tool. It is taking a while to enhance your Pixel experience."
They again suggested sending feedback via the steps below. I sent them feedback again with the hope that someone is reviewing it. 1. Open your phone's Settings app. 2. Scroll to the bottom and tap About phone. 3. Send feedback about this device. |

Very odd that some P8P owners have it working while others don’t. My P8P works perfectly with my 21 M5C and 22 X3MC. I’ll try it on my 24 X7 40i later this month but wonder if it’s an idrive 7 vs 8/8.5 issue
I also had it on my P7P for both cars and again worked fine. I got the P8P in October and I was able to set it up with no issues. One thing that could prevent pairing (at least did for me) was having the vpn on or using an ad blocker (I use ad guard) which would prevent my device from connecting to the car. |

Wanted out from Samsung ecosystem; ordered the Pixel 8 Pro, sent it back due to this... "Soon™". Ridiculous that GOOGLE can't get their own phone right, on their own OS on launch.
Seems that it works on Pixel 8 though |

It does, but with one huge caveat. Only the Pixel 8 Pro has UWB capability. This is required for the phone to work like a regular key fob (i.e. leave it in your pocket/purse to unlock via CA and start the engine). The Pixel 8 (non-Pro) relies on NFC which means you have to hold it very close to the door handle to unlock, and then place it in the charging tray to start the engine. Way less convenient.
Google isn't real clear on this difference between the models...you have to dig around to get the details. Seems like a huge omission. All variants of recent iphones have UWB. |

Thanks for clarifying the NFC vs. UWB difference - I was not aware of that. However, since P8P has NFC there should have been an option to setup the digital key with NFC until UWB is available.

January Android Security Update on Pixel 8 Pro
After January 5, 2024 Android update (yes, it is available OTA) and latest, end of December, 2023 BMW update on the 2024 X5 XDrive50e the Digital Key setup is still not resolved on the Pixel 8 Pro.
Just tested. Can't pair. Apparently this is neither a priority for BMW nor Google... Frustrating. This was working with Pixel 6 Pro fine. I thought an upgrade could only be better.... Last edited by Andalex; 01-04-2024 at 08:45 AM.. Reason: error in title |

Just got a new pixel 8 pro and it said the same thing, can't pair. Tried looking it up on google and found this thread. What a bummer it doesn't work. Stupid google flagship phone.

DK+ is a hardware feature, won’t come to pre-LCI cars. It cannot be enabled/updated in software.

Apparently there's chatter that it should be fixed with the Feb update. So a few more days and we'll find out if it's true. I had issues w my 7 pro and Android Auto so dumped it for Samsung s23 ultra (worked great but missed pixel features). 8 pro and Android Auto work great but definitely miss digital key. |

It'll come eventually. The P8pro is too good a phone in others ways to make this a dealbreaker.

The Feb 5th update was not a feature drop - it was just security and bug fixes. The major feature drop has yet to be released and I think that won't be until March. If we are going to see this fixed it won't be until that release.

I would guess the scenario is that this is not a priority for the devs and they will get to it at some point. |
