Update on economy. 25 miles from Romford (Havering - London) to Leytonstone (Newham - London) start stop traffic on the A12, caught by almost every single one of the million red lights both ways. Averaged 40mpg.

Which driving pattern/mode are you using on the TDI tuner? (0-7?) I haven't pulled the trigger on the TDI tuner yet, I'm a bit apprehensive from the installation side, but very curious to see how its fairing on your car? Also curious as to where you mounted the box in your engine bay, are you able to send pics of your setup? I'm probably someone who is going to want to disconnect and take out before taking it in for a service - wondering if you're thinking the same way. I guess there's a (slim) insurance risk here. If you were involved in a write-off then the investigators would not take kindly to such a modification unless it was declared.
Any idea what an insurer would say if you declared it - how much increase they'd be wanting? |

That's a definite improvement. I'm averaging at ~30 per tank (although admittedly some heavy right footage at times ;-) ) . I might have to consider it. Less worried about the headline mpg, just I do some long trips and it's nice to have a longer range. Just out of sheer nosiness - what's the icon just to the left of the time in the picture? |

Nice, mine will do 20 mpg in that journey Must say 40i is pretty thirsty and Sport Plus even worst, around 12 mpg :/

After hearing 20mpg, and 12mpg in Sports+ for the 40i, I'm not so sure - is the 40i really that thirsty? The more I learn, the more I'm convinced the 30d is the right choice for the long term. |

I'm still 100% convinced that the 30d is the best all round pick of the bunch in terms of engines. Yes the 40i is lovely and the B58 is a super engine but it doesn't fit the car in my opinion.
If you lease yours, residuals don't really make any difference I guess unless you go over the mileage allowance |

Another update on a longer journey. A two and a half hour trip into central London (with decent traffic) totalling almost 42 miles and averaging 37.1mpg. Confident in saying that this isn't the numbers being altered as the fuel gauge reflects this as does the % of fuel used as per Connected App. Pretty sure I would have averaged similar in my old G30 520d which is mighty impressive |

So perhaps a useful comparator as I've got roughly the same spec car, and roughly the same miles (9,000). I've just done a 4 hour each way run up and down the country yesterday. Going up, I sat on the motorway at 75 in comfort, and got 39.8mpg. Coming back I put it in eco and cruise control and got 38.2mpg.
Pretty pleased with that, and if it's like my G30 experience, I should get an incremental increases at 12,000 and 16,000. As a reminder, for me it's not about the mpg per se but the range - now on a theoretical range of 670, which for a car that size, fully laden, is pretty good and I think mind 700s should be possible. Roll on when we can actually get to blast across Europe again! |

I second this. On around 12k Miles. With 7 seat option. I regularly achieve between 37 mpg to close to 40. Again, I'm more focused on range. Anything close to 700 is, for me, a fantastic achievement. And is mind boggling for a car this size

Yes agreed. Range is key but that is a by product of better MPG I guess.
Filled up last week will see how much I get over the ta no doing only city driving. I calculated that my last tank pre tuning box (95% around east London) was 25mpg. Also, I usually get around 520 miles indicated on a full tank in my usually driving cycle, this time round was 626. |

Since March due to covid I only did shorter trips and I have 80 mpg for the last 1600 km. With my former 640d GT I really didn't manage to get under 34 mpg. Even in eco pro but that really takes the fun out of the car. And at the end that was only a difference of a few mpg more not enough to suffer driving around in eco pro all the time. 45e is a great engine. Electric around town, instant torque and the inline 6 petrol with a great sound and power when you need it. Without tax regulations the 30d or 40d would probably the ideal engine. But in Belgium the 30d is actually more expensive to drive as a company car than the 45e. |

The offer on the 30d was too good to turn down, the the range on the 45e was long enough to Justify the e. Maybe going forward, when most of my journeys are sub 20 miles I'd definitely consider the E
