I had tried that but the submenu is horn and lights. How long does one press Climate Control Activate to do a remote start?
Just lightly touch and hold... you will see a progress bar making its way from left to right; keep holding until it reaches the right side and then it will send the command to start the car.

That gets me "Contacting X5 xDrive" which fails to do anything. My iPhone is asleep, BTW, if that matters.

I'd also like to know this. My guess is no, but this can be coded.

Alexa apparently works now with the car. Does anyone know the right command to remote start?

With the keyfob you press lock twice and then hold it for a few seconds. The lights will blink and start the car.

But you need to activate it in the vehicle menu for the fob or connected app to remote start. My CA didn't and I had to figure it out. So if it's not working - try that. It's under the climate control menu.

Do you need to be within a certain proximity to the vehicle to remote start it using the app or you could be anywhere?

With the app, you can be anywhere. I usually start mine when I am nearing the train station, about 5 miles away.

You can also set a daily timer with the app if you always leave at the same time.

iOS.

My Sales guy just added this vehicle to my existing connected drive account before I picked it up, and all of the features have worked for me on my iphone since day one.

I got the display key with my car in Sweden. It looks nice but it is big and heavy. I have a nfc card on its way.

Jay, I have not been able to connect my Galaxy Note 9 as a digital key and therefore have no access to remote start via smartphone. A BMW genius said he was advised that Verizon (my carrier) has blocked that feature.

Hey guys...it's actually press the BMW logo on the key fob THRICE! It says so in the manual too.

It was driving me nuts cos twice seems to be standard in every car I've driven with remote start, and I thought BMW gyped me. But no, press BMW logo three times remote starts. Three more times remote stops, in case you change your mind I guess.

How can we get the heated seats or ventilated on with the remote start. The new 3 has it with idrive 7. Will an update allow us to opt for heated seats when it's freezing.

Good question. Better yet the 5 series with iDrive6 OS can automatically enable heated steering wheel and/or the seats at a specified threshold. Say if it's 35 degrees enable seat heater.

Hopefully they will add the features with OTA but I'm not holding my breath. We have all yet to see what they will add in OTA.

The ventilation does not come on? What does remote start do then? Just start the engine and cabin remains cool.

Digital Key has nothing to do with Remote Start, they're two seperate features. Digital Key let's you use your phone as a key using NFC, if the NFC is disabled on your phone, then yes it won't work. However, you can still use Remote Start from the app, I believe you just need to enable it from the iDrive first and agree to the terms and conditions first.
