A little OT, but - does your Thule whistle loudly? PM me if no - would like to know your setup…

There is some wind noise off of it over 65mph, but there's also wind noise at the same speeds when I just have the crossbars installed without the box. Right now I'm using the BMW OEM F15 bars and want to get aero bars once they come out to see if that helps. I've seen mixed reports on their availability. I think that may help some. You aren't going to be able to get away from the wind noise with a roof box, but I didn't think it was terrible after about 8 hours round trip. The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse blaring from the back seat was more annoying....😂

Ahh - got it. You were referring the Thule roof box in your prior post. I’m looking for a roof rack setup that doesn’t whistle.

Back to the topic. MPG

I only have 677 km on my car so far, so take these numbers with a grain of salt. So far, I'm averaging 12.8 l/100km, which is 22 mpg. The mix is about 50/50 city and highway, although the average speed was only about 30 km/h, so it included a lot of stop-start / very slow city driving.

It's also very cold in Toronto right now (-21 Celsius / -6 Fahrenheit this morning), so that will also be negatively affecting the fuel economy.

1300 miles so far, couple of longer drives, but mostly in medium to heavy traffic daily commute, getting 21.2 average since new. F15 was typically more like 17-18 once broken in.

Once I pick up my 50i I'm willing to bet highway will be 21 and city will be 12 while combined I'll get 18. Let's see how accurate this turns out to be

Picked mine up at the PC Thursday. Got an indicated 27.2 on the drive home, including some stop and go traffic. Pretty impressive for a big vehicle, if it’s real. Still showing close to 400 miles range, so it will be a while before I can verify it.

That's encouraging. Its not the main reason we buy these vehicles, but it doesn't hurt that they are pretty fuel-efficient.

My wife and I are picking up in Spartanburg in two weeks. We are looking forward to the experience. Our drive home is a bit further. About 3000 miles. I will share my MPG on that cross-country trip.

ECO mode for long drive may not be a good idea.
Don't ask me why coz I don't know . But that's what I heard. Just FYI

I believe my 50i has the highest mileage in the entire forum. Currently have 7.6 mpg on campus... I did a round trip from IL to as far as DC and the highway fuel economy was 19

I'd verify the old fashion way. Fill, reset odometer to 0, run almost to empty, fill it up, and divide the mileage driven by the gallons required to top it up again.

Is anyone checking this way or you relying on the car's electronics?

I don't think its true since you will be getting 1600-2500 RPM variations anyway, it's not like on idle, plus I only use cars until the warranty expires at 50K and on top of that savings of only 55$/month over 50k miles 36 months not a major deal breaker for 31mpg vs 22mpg driving

40i, with 4K miles, 70% plus highway miles, most often in comfort mode, with some sport driving. Just under 23 mpg.

I'm showing 22.5 mpg mainly driving in comfort mode, about 70% highway, and over 4,000 miles to date. No problems. Very happy with the purchase.

That sounds very reasonable für that engine and vehicle weight. On my 335i (similar engine) I used to get about that same mileage (10,5 Liters per 100 km)

I’m close to 1500 miles and I’m mostly city driving but some highway and I’m nowhere near any of these numbers. I’m still getting around 14 mpg in my 40i.

Are you warming the car up before driving? That lowers the numbers considerably.

Maybe mention it to the dealer and see what he/she says. I’ve been getting 20-22mpg city/hiway from day 1. I’ve used 89,91 and 93 octane too. I also drive mainly in adaptive but do drive in sport mode whenever I can when I’m on the highway and I’m still averaging 20-22 mpg.
