I've always thought that too, actually I bet a nice carbon fiber would look great but here they are in black. You can wrap or paint them or just wait a bit, there has to be someone on eBay selling some sort of black ones

It’s just the poor lighting in the posted picture. It’s painted in Alpine White just like the body color. Now, back to the roof rails.......

I wonder what the remedy is going to be for the rails? Will BMW tell us they reserve the right to change features at any time?

Even if they agree to pay for them to be installed after delivery, how easy is it? I know in past X5 models, you had to drop the headliner, which is a scary thought on a brand new car, especially alcantara.

I like it without the rails, makes the roof much easier to clean and I have never used the rails on any of my cars.

I think I hear the dreaded “a supplier issue” excuse forthcoming. BMW is notorious for shipping the first batch of new models without some key elements. It will be interesting to see if the 2020 4.0 sport package equipped models include the roof rails or if it’s just the M50s. I certainly won’t be opting for after delivery retrofit if they ultimately include them.

Here is the response I received from BMW Doofus...

"The Roof rails in High-gloss Shadowline are standard on the 2020 BMW X5 M50i. If you are concerned with the addition of the roof rails on your vehicle, please consult your Client Advisor. They are in the best position to assist you as they placed the order."

I would recommend you all email them so you have something in writing from a BMW representative stating that the roof rails are standard. It will assist when pursuing recourse.

Makes me wonder what else won't be included! Going to sleep on it, but considering pulling the plug on my order and finding something else to buy instead. This really isn't a new model - it is the same as last year. There's no excuse for the roof rails to be omitted.

Ordering guide shows Roof Rails in High Gloss Shadowline are STD
"3MC Roof rails in High-gloss Shadowline STD" this is specfic to the M50i
on the other lines...order guide reads.
"3MB Satin aluminum line exterior trim STD STD STD" (across the 3 lines not M50i)
I have an M50i on order...I'll not accept if it arrives without. I mean for nearly 100k...it better have all STD equip right? WTF

Save yourself the hassle and waiting and cancel now. I've checked over a dozen VINS from cars.com and none have the roof rails. Does your tracking page at mybmw.com show the rails? The fact that they have specifically omitted them from the tracking page photo tells me it is deliberate and we aren't getting them.

The 2020 40i M-sport models are all showing the 3MC high gloss shadowline roof rails when I do a VIN search from the cars listed on Cars.com.

This seems to be isolated to the M50i, but why?

I can confirm that, I have some X5 40i MSports in production with (3MC) as they should.

Has to be a production glitch in their system. Even UK and German sites show M50i with roof rails.

Pretty poor QC since these are leaving the factory without rails.

I've checked more VINs now as they are sequential. I've checked all cars produced through today - no roof rails. It looks like about 20 M50is are being produced each day.

I've also noticed another discrepancy that I am interested in. I ordered ZXN wheels, which the order guide appears to show as bi-color with the inner rim a glossy black. The 1XN on the other hand are the regular 741M bi-color with orbit grey on the inner rim.

1XN is not an option for the M50i according to the order guide, but M50i cars are being built with that code, and I have not seen any produced with the ZXN wheels.

Who knows what else they may be substituting or omitting from our builds.

I'd like to think it is a production glitch and it will be resolved ASAP, but the fact that the mybmw tracking page for those who have an M50i on order indicates it may be deliberate.

Ordering and pricing guides for M50i have 3MC

But my tracking photo on mybmw is also missing them

Are these guides not reliable?

Is there a way to formally inform Spartanburg of this QC issue?
