Illogical.

Battery Electric Cars are less likely to catch fire versus a gasoline car.
BMW ICE cars have a long history of unexplained car fires in the past 20 years.

Gotcha.

My 1er had a recall for such a thing.

Well BEV's are far less likely to catch fire.

The warranty should cover this not sure how long the wait list is for another one or if he can switch to another vehicle.

This is shocking and not the first we've seen from a BMW. If some people were unlucky enough to be in it or parked inside a garage

Recall likely?

I'd like to know the stat for electric vehicles that burst into flames unrelated to an impact.

It depends on the insurance company. You’ll find both in fact in terms of options.

This is literally alarming. One could make a business case for a fireproof aircraft style black box (actual color is orange) recorder. Car fires can place at risk residences or worse actual residents.

Gassers catch fire all the time.
And considering what we've seen here, BMW HYBRIDS are no less likely to do so than BMW ICE.

Considering low number of BMW hybrids, no evidence they have less of a chance to catch on fire than BMW ICE.

Numerous BMW ICE fires caused houses to be consumed by fire.

I'm just going to point out that the car had aftermarket wheels, could have been lowered or some other mods could have been done. Need to wait and see what they find.

So far I love the car but this isn't the first electric / hybrid fire that catches the news - make me wonder to what extent the cars are really "safe" to just put them inside the house and hope nothing bad happens
not the first time it's been recommended to park an X5 or other BMW on the street..

Since 2000, BMW Inc ICE sold vs Hybrids are about 100:1

50,000,000 to 500,000

So no real evidence that BMW Hybrids have a statistically significant fire rate less than ICE per 10,000 (or 100,000).

That's why bmw should stick to making combustable motors, it's what they're good at.. leave the electric shit up to other manufacturers.

Like Tesla...
