Cool Idalia storm is delaying my X6 delivery in Belgium

I got a message from my dealear saying that my ordered X6 was in the Charlstone port when the storm Idalia hit and now it has to go through an inspection at Bremerhaven port.
Checking the vessel : "Don Pasquale", where my car was, it already went to Bremerhaven and arrived in ZeeBruge this Saturday.
The code now is 195, but my dealer told me that it will still go to Germany for further inspections. But nothing mentioning about the delay time or if my car is indeed hit or not.
Does anyone in the same situation?
Did this happen to anyone in the past and how did you solve it?
What should I expect now..? Car will be repaired or a new order will take place? What should I do now? Anything special to look on? I am really

unfortunate thing to happen, but what is there to solve? If it was potentially damaged while on the ship that passed though the storm, the inspection delay is the correct measure to ensure your vehicle has integrity and is safe for you to operate. keep in mind it’s not just yours but the hundreds that were on that ship, and not just BMW either. sucks, but one can only blame the storm in this case.

just be critical if/when you receive your vehicle. look for uneven body panels or paint color/texture. look for signs of water ingress. maybe obtain a letter from your dealer stating that the vehicle was damaged in a storm while in transit, and while it may operate fine initially, if issues pop up, they will have low threshold to repair or even replace it. the few folks here whose vehicles were damaged in transit had varying outcomes: some accepted repairs, some did not and cancelled or re-ordered.

good luck

Thanks for this. I'll consider it.
Based my email conversation with the Dealer and BMW BE, they don't yet know if my car was damaged or not, they do not provide anything more than saying me to wait for more news.

Angry

Same situation here: very disappointed.
I bought last year the new BMW XM. My local BMW dealer informed me beginning of August that the car was already out of production end of July. Delivery beginning of September. Mid september local dealer promised a delivery within one week: with this information I sold my car. We are 5 weeks later now, and yesterday i hear this information, while I had everyday of this week contact with the dealer who assured me a delivery this week.

I am working myself with the major shipping lines. I dont understand that a company like BMW comes so late up with this information. Once a car delivered to the terminal in port of departure, the shipping line is commited to load it on the vessel and to warn the owner (BMW) of any dammage. So if there was any dammage: BMW gave green light to ship the cars. But why they didnt warn directly them dealers, or changed the software saying there is an issue.... i think would be a better way than give people empty promises for weeks, to finally say we have a delivery problem.
Sad for a big company like this

Just got a call from my dealer (after requesting info).

Cars are grouped in batches according to damage. Mine is told to have minor damage. All cars are undergoing inspection.
Delivery: unknown.

Time will tell if Idalia gave me a Lemon.
I will have my PPF installer have a look at the point thickness all around just to know if it has not been repainted.

This is sad news. One reassuring way would be to keep the customer updated with pictures as it is now.

What / how much compensation will you get from BMW if your car has been damaged.

My X5 50e order was also affected not yet confirmed the level of damage but I am likely to cancel my order. Just think water and electric batteries don’t mix well

Is it difficult to cancel an order there? Here in the US, we have the right to cancel if the vehicle isn’t in the condition that was expected (new, undamaged, etc) when entering the agreement. deposit refund is variable by dealership

I have a deposit.
Depends what is written in your contract
For me, if it’s a Force Majeure like it is now, I should get back the deposit. That’s not an issue as will not withdraw, I prefer to wait more to get a new car if the re-order is the way.

The answer to whether you have to accept a damaged and repaired „new“ car might be differing from country to country.
For Germany the situation is clear:
If the damage has occurred in the factory and has been repaired at the factory, it would still be considered a new car and the customer has to accept it (this is NOT the case in the Idalia incident).
BUT: If the car has experienced a damage on the way from the factory to the customer, the contract can be easily canceled and the customer does not have to accept the car (as is the case in the Idalia incident).
I don’t know about the situation in Belgium, GB or other European countries.

I am wondering also if can cancel the deal. (Belgium)
In the mean time some dealers can sell the car out of stock, and at this moment i have to rent a car (sold my car because of empty delivery promises)

How do you guys see this stop codes?
I was with my local dealer on Monday and I saw that my car is now in Hodenhagen Germany. They could tell me nothing about the dammages.
Got my VIN code although

What are the alternatives for stock cars in Belgium? Maybe a Q8? Cayenne? Have you done any enquiry?

Would they repair the cars in Germany without telling us or request us our acceptance?
