Sacrifice Ideal Build For a Great Deal?
Recently I have been shopping for an x5 45e and cannot find any dealers willing to discount. I called about 10-12 of them in my area.
During my search I found a nice dealer about 3 hours away who has a x5 40i demo and they are willing to discount it $11k altogether including incentives. It’s not my exact color combination and it doesn’t have m sport. I mainly wanted msport due to looks. Would you consider a discount to get something outside your ideal colors and options? I’m debating if it’s worth it and if I will have regrets. |

$11K discount on demo 40i is decent but not great, given the current incentive for MY 21 is ~$3-4K, meaning actual discount is only ~$8K. |

In my experience I wanted to trade in my vehicle that was slightly different than ideal sooner than later. That might be fine in your situation, or not if you plan on keeping it long term.
Color wasn’t as big as deal for me as the seats and some other options. |

Probably not worth it. If you wanted M Sport, everyday you walked into your garage you would be disappointed with the look of the car. Color is one thing and taking your 2nd or 3rd choice for a great deal is livable, but features, options, and appearance I think you would be disappointed. If the great deal made an M50i available in your price range then it might be a different story.

I can’t get dealers to move off msrp at all. So the $8k these days I am considering good. I even reached out to 3 brokers and all told me msrp in my region. On the east coast there are discounts but when I factor in enclosed shipping and such it makes no sense.

I’m thinking then the next best option is ordering a 2022, no point getting a 2021 without much discount. Last edited by kwarden13; 07-21-2021 at 11:42 AM.. |

I generally agree with what others are saying. Also as 45e21 mentioned, consider that you the federal tax credit is $7.5K for the 45e. Obviously the 40i doesn't qualify. Note that the amount you're eligible for is UP TO your tax liability, but for the most part I don't think this is an issue for anyone purchasing an x5.
For the sake of considering the other side, though, I'm going to play Devil's Advocate:
For me personally, if I'm going to buy a new car, I want a new car, not something that's been driven around by a bunch of people. It probably makes little to no difference, but when you consider that tax credit, you don't actually have to pay that much more for the 45e, and you get everything you want in terms of options. If the net difference was in the $10K range, sure, you should consider the loaner, but after the credit the difference is almost negligible. My vote is get the 45e. |
