No, this is not a suspension thread. I am curious about why there have been two 1M's at low prices in the last fortnight on carsales. Both sellers don't return phone calls and in fact the one posted at the moment has an email address that bounces and a disconnected phone number.
Why would these cars be posted? Is it a scam being run (trying to get a quick deposit and scarper off with the money - although contact must be made for this to work)?

That one for $61,000 seems hard to believe . . . why wouldn't he just trade it in to a dealer? I'm sure a dealer would give $70k+.

That's right. And the one on there last week was $65K.

That's just it, what's the scam with advertising other people's cars?
Call me unimaginative... Are they looking for people to pay a deposit as one of the guys here suggested? Who does that sight unseen? |

You'd be surprised. There's a Brit on one of the Porsche forums who bought a Canadian 911 sight unseen from another forum member. . . wired ALL the money . . . car never showed up. Now he's trying to track down a person on the other side of the world.

That one at $61k is apparently a 125i with a 1M cosmetic conversion... Someone already rang up the dealer about it and their records do not match the Ad.

I was surprised myself as recently sold my x5 and had someone wire me all the money sight unseen.
I had plenty others too who were ready to wire a deposit sight unseen. |

Received an email to buy, wired the full amount, came a week later to pick up the car. Could not ever fathom doing such a thing! |

The guy came to take delivery of our BSM 1M after he had already transferred the money the BMW finance (and was in the account) sight unseen. The first thing he said at pick up was, "maybe I should go for a test drive", I said "a bit late now" lol, he did and loved it,.... of course.
Another Guy agreed to a sum on our Reno R265 8:08 sight unseen, rocked up with c a s h LOL, had to count the $, $45k is a lot of pineapples. Re those couple cars at low prices, perhaps someone is trying to push the market down, then making offers on other cars online and using the "low" priced false adds as a bargaining chip? |

These people must not be working hard enough for their money! I can't imagine wiring the deposit, let alone the FULL AMOUNT for a car to someone I've never met before sight unseen.
Schools are still teaching kids the whole "Buyer beware" thing aren't they? The theory about pushing prices down is also a good one. Especially if the email and phone number behind the ad are bogus. |

I brought my E36 M3 sight unseen, only dealt with the guy over the phone. Had all the proper checks done mechanically and then just took a punt. It helped alot that i was paying into his financier's account rather than a personal one though.
Drove it back from Adelaide to Sydney in one go, no problems with it, then spent 9 months with it. Faulty vanos system, faulty fuel pump and dodgy gear box later, i learnt my lesson and sold it. I did make a profit selling it though! Only car to make a profit on... |

Wow, there are some trusting people out there. I just sold my wife's old Polo and was suprised the buyer didn't want any kind of inspection and that was only $7k.

Haha, how's your A45 Don? I've got an MY12 IS350 atm, quickish, much more practical than anything before (4 door/auto), but the driving experience doesn't compare to anything before it I'm currently saving for a wedding, which is not kind to my automotive ventures
I was looking through some old photos of my 1M, oh how I miss those times... |
