Not a surprise. F15 X5 (own currently) has already delivered what very few SUVs do: a complete package. The new X5 is an even more complete package. Our friends were shopping for a new SUV and I suggested to test drive the new X5. In their own words, "had to cancel several test drives because X5 felt right across so many dimensions".

I like Car Wow reviews. The reviewer Matt is funny, practical and honest in most of his reviews. He is usually inclined towards Audi because most of his reviews he compares cars with Audi. But seeing BMW X5 beat Audi Q8/7 is no surprise! I am surprised Porsche is no. 10.

It feels weird to say this and probabaly sacrilegious to BMW purists, but the X5 is probably the best BMW out there in terms of overall performance, usefulness and even price (it did get somewhat steeper however since it first launched). It's the top of its class and it attracts lots of wealthy business owners where I'm from since the second generation of the X5. I think they have been on point with every model since then. My father had the second generation and was sold last year with it being 10 years old and I must say we loved it till its last day, I was even sad to see it go, even though the new 6GT is better in almost every way. The third generation we test drove and it really did improve all the shortcomings of our model - the 6 speed auto transmisson was replaced with an 8 speed, even more comfortable suspension and quieter interior even at higher speeds.

Consumer Reports tests real world acceleration. Believe it or not, there are more than enough professional drivers in this world that know cars better than most of us do working at places like Consumer Reports. These people know how to drive. The discrepancy between CR and C&D might have to do with the 1-foot rollouts and climate adjustments made by car magazines. Car magazines are also ridiculously hard on cars when they launch them. Most of us "testing" the acceleration on our own cars would never launch them like they do and would probably get times more similar to what CR gets.

How many of you would trade a less than stellar magazine review for a car with no issues? Honestly this is not surprising. When the competition rolls out their remodel and refreshes they’ll be on top too. Yippee ...something to brag to my friends about.

We just bought a 2015 X5 after much research. We typically test drive 4 or 5 models before buying. After our test drive the wife and I looked at each other and asked the question, nope no need to drive the others.
Reliability factors high in our thinking, although the 2015 is no better than average. Comfort and ride quality are superb even with the base model we have. The rear camera is the only upgrade. I come to the brand through my R1200GS. Interestingly, to me, for our planned test drives a Ford Explore and Expedition were within $1000 of the X5, although a year newer. Dang! So many cars, so little time. |

We have no problems with our 2015 BMW X5d with 79k miles.. Still wish BMW was making the new gen in the diesel engines for the USA market.I ordered a loaded X5 4.0 but not happy with the gas mileage on the highway and the smaller gas tank, 21.9 gallons... WTF. The 2020 Mercedes GLE got my attention again.. I had a 2013 ML350 bluetec diesel and it had 27.7 gallon tank and 28 mpg highway for work. The new 2020 GLE is looking amazing and has a 24.5 gallon tank with average of 27-28 mpg highway so I am ordering the the 2020 Mercedes GLE for delivery end of April. Nothing against BMW, but Mercedes had done a great job on the GLE and BMW has done a great job on the new X5. I am very impress with the reviews on the GLE which trumps the X5 despite the new X5 being a much better handling than the current X5 we have that feels a bit loose and ponderous. However, it never felt great as our 2013 Ml350 that was much more heaver steering and far better body roll then the F15 X5 and better ride too. However the new G05 has better ride and handling then the old X5 we have now and the older Ml350 bluetec. It will now come down to preference, taste, and convenience. We will miss our 2015 BMW X5 but excited for the new GLE which I read has better handling and cool suspension.. At end of day both are great.

Funny how you don't see any more posts on how big the grill is.
Welcome to the new breed of SUV's.

Summary -
Let me summirize the Issues -
Last year my car was in dealership for repair for around 70 days /6 trips .Its a 2014 BMW X5 35d .Less then 110K Kms . Below are the issues only from 2018 1.Engine light 4 times already ( 4 injectors replaced + others Issues) 2.Air Suspension failure 4 times 3.iDrive controller replaces twice 4.iDrive screen shows “NO SIGNAL” while driving anytime randomly 5.Underbody shield hanging from the car 6.Blind Spot Malfunction Waring 7.Front Control Arm replaced Above were covered under warranty 8.Engine Carbon Clean up - $2000 Paid .As per BMW this not covered under warranty . I spends hours on phone /emails to get my car fixed from BMW Canada , specially in Canada the customers have no protection from Govt nor any Law in your favour so these companies give you really hard time . + to add Car is under recall related to fire but BMW have no clue how to fix it . If anybody want details of above stated issues i will love to provide them . |

Funny too how many have forgotten about all the spontaneous fires while the car sits idle in the garage or drive. |
