Standard seats on new x5??
Hi everyone. I was planning on picking up a new X5 this week. My current Mercedes has quite uncomfortable seats due to very firm side bolsters prompting a change. But after sitting in the new X5 multiple times I have noticed that the standard sport seats themselves have very prominent side bolsters. At times during test drives they have felt uncomfortable as well. Maybe it’s the way I am sitting in the seat but I am not a large guy, only around 165 pounds. If I keep my legs more narrow in the seat it feels fine but any lateral movement in the side bolsters do tend to dig into my thighs. In the show room they had a 2018 X5 with multi contour seats and I can say they were much more comfortable than the standard seats now in the 2019 X5.
So two questions... anyone else notice this? And does anyone know if they will ever offer the X5 without the standard “sport” seats? |

I doubt it. They enjoy charging $750 for the more comfortable seats.

I guess I mean that the current standard seats are listed as “sport” seats and are significantly more bolstered than the previous base seats, which were relatively flat. Sure, you did move around a bit with hard cornering, but they were never uncomfortable. Then they took those flat seats and made multi contour seats, with a bit more support but still comfortable. Then you could upgrade further to the m sport “sport” seats, which I never liked due to more significant bolsters. They are great for harder driving but hugged me a little too much for longer drives. With the 2019s there seems to be only one basic seat design. Even the multicontour seats in the 2019s are basically the same seats that come standard in the car, with only the upper back adjustment setting that is different. My question is whether anyone else preferred the less aggressive seat design of the previous body style or found the standard seats in the 2019s to be uncomfortable.
