Thule box for new X5

Can someone please help when they get a chance?
I know someone wanting to sell me their large Thule box.
It is quite long and I want to figure out whether it will fit my x5 due to arrive at the end of September. It is 92” long by 36” wide so will easily accommodate my 186cm skis and the extra cargo space will be nice.

Ideally, I don’t want it to interfere with the opening height of the rear upper tailgate. Can someone please measure from the top of the front windshield to the start of the tailgate along the roof?

Also, are the cross rails for the x5 in a fixed location on the flush rails, or can they be mounted anywhere along them? If fixed, what is the distance from the fron rail mounts to the rear hatch?

TIA.

I think the roof box I have is the Yakima Skybox 16 (Dimensions: L 81.00 in x W 36.00 in x H 15.00 in) and I have to push it further forward that I'd like in order to open the trunk to max opening.
With it pushed forward there's a fair bit of "bobbing" of the front of the box, I just keep the sunroof screen closed and try to forget about it - lol.

92" long would almost certainly mean that opening the tailgate will be problematic for you, maybe even at a lower setting.

There are very faint lines where BMW want you to install the bars, but there's no "fixed" points. Some have commented about moving the rails slightly outside of the lined ranges to reduce whistling.

An option to gain a small bit of room would be to adjust the opening position of the rear hatch for times when using the cargo box. Just be carefully walking around the hatch. Ouch if you hit the corner with your head . I have a shallow garage, so mine is adjusted to not hit the garage door when hatch opens.

Edit: Sorry, reread your post and you stated you don't want to use that option.

might be close, but location of the cross bar can slightly shift and box can also be slightly shift to make it work.

we have the Thule Motion XL about about 84.5". we installed it with the front of the box sitting a few inches back from the windshield, the back is few inches clear of the rear door when its opens all the way up.

another thing would be the wind noise. the location we have our sits lessen wind noise; the best so far based on a few trial an error trips.

The exact location for your cross-bars will somewhat depend on which brand you have. THe indicated small molded bumps on the rubber are the preferred location for the OEM bars, but they can be installed elsewhere.

Not a large box, but you can adjust the hatch opening height so the roof doesn't hit. This box's position doesn't require adjustment and is balanced
