X3 M vs Nicely Equipped X5 XDrive 40i Msport
I was all set to get the new G05 after my lease is up but now the X3M has me thinking. Anyone else?

I too looked at an X3 but the luxury, drive and performance of the 2019 X5 is a hands down winner. The X5 to me is a more classy vehicle compared to the X3 but this is just my opinion.

Only tempted by the thought of being able to order Donington Grey metallic with Adelaide grey/shakir orange M seats. They could have done more with the X3/4 M interior - eg. leather covered lower dash like the M3/4 with extended Merino.
Then snapped back to reality with I enjoy luxury in a sporty SAV. I'd be will to give up crazy performance of a X3/4 M for more than adequate performance in a M50i in 2020. Though I'd consider a LCI with new digital display and iDrive 7.

X3M will drive better, be way more fun but lack the comfort in an X5. I owned an X3 M40i for a year and it was a blast. Ride quality was really bad and the seat frankly sucked to sit in for over 30min at a time. I love my X5 50i even though it's not quite as fun the car is better everywhere else.

x5 5.0 has pretty much the same HP as x3 M. with torque low where it matters for a heavy SUV.
M car treatment for SUV is a tough one. One can not really track a 2 ton vehicle. So you are mostly trying to utilize it on the street. But at the same time you are getting very stiff suspension, potentially uncomfortable seats (again great on the track) and the HP and Torque are very high up there - 7200 RPM. So one needs to rev the heck out of that engine to outrun the X5 V8. So i'm sticking with X5 and maybe towing Mazda Miata to the track or an M2 |

I'll check it out for sure...I go through cars. If the M seats are more comfy than the current X3 that'll be a bonus and Donnington gray is one of my current favorite colors from BMW. I think I'd rather go the X5M route down the road though.
