2024 X5 - any delivered

I ordered my X5 and production began today along with a VIN. They are telling me end of April but only if the 2024s are released. Does anyone know of issues that would delay release? Are you aware of any 2024s that have been delivered to the dealer? Thanks.

Thanks for asking this. I’m definitely wondering this as well. I ordered a few weeks ago and received my VIN on 3/20. There has been no movement since. Production date still says 4/5.

For clarification, Production Begins does not mean that assembly has begun but rather that a VIN has been assigned and parts ordered/allocated. This usually happens about two weeks prior to assembly. Actual assembly takes less than a day.

I would imagine your CA is referring to an EPA hold as they likely have not been certified yet, That usually happens the first week or so of the new model year so you should be fine once it is assembled it can be shipped which should take 2 days to NJ.

Welcome to the forum. You shouldn't see any movement until your production day or the night before.

Thanks. I just looked after posting and my production date now says 4/3 instead of 4/5. Good news!

Thanks for your response, Turtleboy. I was asking because I had previously ordered the new Mercedes SL55 last year. It landed in Baltimore in April but wasn't released to the dealer until August. At that point, I decided not to take the car. Hopefully, based on what you have said, it shouldn't be an issue.

Our 2024 X5 40i was completed yesterday - shows awaiting transport. We are planning PCD which appears to be 4/27... if we can wait! Upgrading our 2016 which has been flawless!

Grats! But I'm confused. 4/27 seems like an long time to wait to pick up a vehicle that's completed now and will be picked up at the PCD.

Quite normal, it depends on how busy they are. We have seen delays up to two months or so.

Yes, wasn't fully aware that we couldn't "pick the date" for the PCD schedule...but our 2016 X5 is running great so fine with the wait as we have never done PCD.

Really? I'm surprised that delivery is quicker than pickup. Not too many businesses like that. Obviously, it must be a unique experience for some folks to delay taking possession of a car to experience it. Perhaps one day I'll see what the hubbub is about.

Keep in mind that PCD has a limited number of spots for each day versus delivery where there are many trucks and trains running. For the East Coast delivery usually takes one to three days after production, for PCD it is usually a minimum of two weeks at the bets of times.

I did PCD in 2021. Two weeks after production is the quickest you'll get it scheduled.

They won't schedule it until the car is released (Awaiting transport). My X5 was completed on a Friday. Monday they emailed my CA with a couple dates. The first was the Wednesday two weeks (17 days) later. My CA had 24 hours to confirm or lose that slot. We confirmed it that afternoon. After that, I got the email with information on the hotel reservations an other information I had to confirm. You also have to make travel arrangements. (I did a one-way car rental as it's only about 550 miles for me.)

You also have to complete the sale paperwork with your dealer at least 4 or 5 business days before your delivery date. I'm waiting on my new Z4. They won't schedule PCD until the car is processed through the VPC in Brunswick. (It's currently in Bremerhaven - waiting).

So 3 to 4 weeks to get PCD is not unusual. And it's absolutely worth it.

My salesman says it could be up to 10 days before delivery because they would need a full truck to come up to Asheville. I'm only 50 or so miles from the plant in SC.
I'd Uber down to pick it up if they'd let me...

We haven't seen that to be the case but I guess anything can happen. More than likely though you will get yours a day after it is completed.

Not true about a PCD date being scheduled until hitting Awaiting Carrier stage. As soon as I hit 150 my date got scheduled.

The earliest date my dealership would do the paperwork was exactly 14 days prior to our PCD date.

That may have changed. The issue is they don't want to schedule PCD if there's any doubt about when the car will be ready. When I got mine in '21 there were cars getting caught in QA hold due to last minute parts availability.

I did the paperwork 8 days ahead. I had no reason to do it sooner and as the dealer pointed out; the earlier you do it, the longer you're paying for a car you don't actually have.

Good point on payment. Hoping for April loyalty incentive! Also glad to hear the waiting is worth it…

Our PCD was in July 2022, so after yours. So, yes it changed from when you did your process.

You are correct about the delays, that is why we were told to not schedule our flight until two weeks prior to our date. If anything happened during that time caused by BMW then they would handle it and make it right.

Also, signing my paperwork I financed initially through BMWFS, and immediately refinanced the next day. So wasn't worried about paying on something I was waiting to pick up.

My 2024 X5 40i sjhowed a VIN mid March, then actually entered production on 30 March. The tracking feature showed it in quality check for 5 days, but that was only because of a delay in processing the info. Switched to Awaiting carrier assignment so it my we’ll be enroute at this point. I tried having my local dealership check but they’re slow to respond. But should have the car, Skyscraper Grey with black interior, in a week or so.

Please share lots of photos when you get it! Xline or Msport? W or w/pro package?

I’m also awaiting carrier assignment. My dealership is only 12 miles from the Spartanburg plant, so I’m hopeful I will have it within the week unless they haven’t released the 2024s yet. X-line, Carbon black w/ coffee leather, MSport with Pro package, executive pkg, etc. No incentives have been added for x5s for military as of today, so honeslty hoping they add those before it’s delivered anyway.
