By far the bigger issue is that DR only records while car is on. That is, no recording parking or break-in incidents at all. Likely done for battery, but reduces DR value to minor vs what-could-have-been.

Clean user cameras is an issue and a more general one, not just for DR. Without mudflaps, the back camera is often useless in the winter as it is. Aftermarket mudflaps sitting waiting for the next wheel change, perhaps they will help.

Yeah I was planning on not transferring my hardwired BlackVue from my M4 upon collection but now thinking I will get it installed afterall.

I was never going to install a dashcam - I barely do 5 miles most days - so DR is fine for me.

It's better than what I would have had, which is nothing.

I agree. Nice to know it's there if needed in a crash, and a fun ad-hoc recording option without the overhead of extra hardware.

Added bonus is it encourages me to keep the car washed more often than previously

True. I have to park on side roads quite often though so having the semi-comfort of catching someone if they bump the front or rear is nice. Ive never needed it (friends have tho!) but know as soon as I swap it will happen so for the sake of £500 to have a new Blackview dash cam hardwired in by a pro it's worth it.

In your circumstances I would probably want a full dashcam too.

I work at home, park on the drive, have CCTV from 3 angles anyway and my road is basically a dead end so very quiet. My car is rarely away from the house for any length of time unless I'm driving it.

I could write a guide, but only if you are committed to using esys, buying an OBD-II cable, and doing the supporting research on coding.

It's a great feature, the best I've coded, but you have to take some responsibility to implement it. I wont be supporting it, but there are loads on here who can help answer questions.

So I bought the driver recorder but can't see it in the 'installed apps' part of the idrive system.

I purchased it but I went to Apps and did an update and it appeared.

Yes you have to press 'options' when on the apps page menu, and 'update'. I had to do this a load of times before it worked. Sat there for about 5 minutes just pressing update over and over until it worked.

I was pretty fortunate. By the time I completed the purchase online and went out to the car I did the update and it appeared right away.

Right I was being thick, it's the button next to the I drive controller marked 'option'

So having done that, it's still not showing up

So I had customer services, they did something their end. Email came through and it's now live

Purchased my new X5, 01/09/2020 with included tech pack. Drive recorder wasn't around at the time, I was told it was just a software update.
Looking on the connected drive app store it just says BMW Drive Recorder Not available for your vehicle.
Spoke to connected drive team who say it's been pulled as there's been problems with it. Dealership currently closed so cannot check with them.

Any ideas

Odd, I wonder when they pulled it? Most of us purchased it from CD store UK just a few weeks ago.

Also, what are the problems they refer to I wonder? I haven't read of any issues with it on the forum. It might be the only feature that I've not seen any problems with actually

Interesting, when I bought the car bmw website was showing it was included with tech pack (no charge).
Is it letting you add it for free and does it work?
