Drive Recorder now available to retro-fit purchase in the UK

Looks like a one-off fee of £199, available in the Connected Drive store.

Just bought it!

Why isn't this a free is the question! I expect this to be a feature for the software upgrade. The hardware is already there!!

Software costs money? If you order a new car then you are having to pay for it.

It's amazing how many people attach little value to software, it has to be written and then maintained.

It was never going to be free nor part of an i-step update? Software development and support costs money.

I seem to recall 6DR was a stand-alone option initially with a £200-£300 cost. It's now bundled in the tech pack, but a one-off CD purchase price of £200 seems about right to me.

Now they just need to roll that out to US market... 7 series already offers it as a software subscription

It makes sense that 07/2019 is the minimum i-step required to support DR. That was when the app was first made available for new purchases so obviously supports it.

There was a question as to whether 11/2019 was needed for the retro purchase because some users in AUSY reported that it only became available in CD after upgrading to 11/2019. Maybe they skipped 07/2019, or it was a coincidence.

People paying for this feature should ask BMW what they are going to give back to you for Remote Software upgrade NOT working, and the inconvenience it brings with you having to drive it back to a dealer for upgrading.

I'd ask for Drive Recorder subscription "free of charge".....I did, and they did it for me !

Think about it guys, a feature that YOU HAVE PAID FOR isn't working, and your paying BMW for another App?

Worth a try but I thought Remote Software Upgrade was working?

Seems to be in the UK, many users reported getting 07/2019 OTA, lets see when 11/2019 arrives. Give it a month or so....

Absolutely worth a go, I think its very fair compromise between Customers and BMW.

I asked BMW back in Feb, and was very clear to them that my Service Manager @ the dealer told me RSU's weren't working - so they couldn't argue. It may have changed since.

We have some very strong consumer laws here in Australia, and I was going to start beating them over the head with them if they didn't play ball with a little something to ease the pain. Companies can't just promise something that is plastered all over their brochures, and simply not deliver it in the real world.

Agreed. Even if it is here, it's 12 months late to the party!

He is indeed.

Most of the UK owners on this forum have been waiting for this. The only thing more coveted is a cure for coronavirus

The thing that makes me see red is that I was specifically told my MY19 car needed a separate
hard drive to enable DR. Connected Drive and the local specialist at BMW were wrong. Crazy and they want £199. Not a first world problem but BMW you make me mad.

I raised a formal complaint with BMW UK about a lack of automatic lane change assistant on my vehicle, when it was clearly stated as avaialble in the BMW UK brochure.

The eventual response was that while it would be available for MY2020 cars, my car lacked the hardware to support the feature.

So I figured out how to code it on myself. The only extra hardware required was a laptop and an OBD-II cable. Numpties!

Disappoints me that they were too short sighted not to include an internal camera that doesn’t get dirty and obscured!
