Hit and Run

I am so so f***in mad today morning. Had gone to the grocery store and came back to find this. The idiot did not even have the courtesy to leave a note with his/her information. Anyway the good part is that I have PPF and so the paint did not come off and only the color from the other car got transferred to mine. I tried to scrape it off with my nail and it comes out cleanly. There are some spots where it is a bit tough so wanted to get an opinion on what is the best product and method to buff this out?

Not so much of a happy friday I guess....

I am so very sorry to hear. Unfortunately I am unable to provide any guidance. Just wanted to give my condolences.

Sometimes its lucky to be unlucky Ok, providing you are correct in that only the PPF has the scraped paint on it, then all you would need to do is use a polishing compound to remove the white paint. Go to your local auto parts store, they will have several brands, I use Meguiar's most of the time. You will have several choices. Do it by hand.https://www.meguiars.com/automotive/...-152-oz-liquid

After the first 5 or so minutes rubbing by hand, you will know how well its working. Put plenty of polish on your pad or microfiber cloth, let the polish do the work. Also, if the PPF has been compromised, you will see it as you start removing the white paint.

Gutted for you mate. Know how you feel....I had a neighbour do exactly the same to my M4 3 days after delivery. Thankfully she owned up and paid .

Horrible feeling but thankfully your car will easily be put right again. Have you asked for any local CCTV? Even if it's not directly focused on your car it may catch a car with damage/paint leaving the exit of the carpark.

Scumbags. I would try to get surveillance footage somehow from the grocery store (if they have it) and find the a**hole who did that and make them pay me every penny to make it perfect.

I have been wanting to do this and I am so furious that BMW recorder isn't available for 2019 builds in USA. Not sure how much it would recorded if at all but who knows

I am just worried that there is too much to take apart for a dashcam install and I might screw it up on a brand new car. Having said that with good instructions I am pretty good at things and I just installed a Aftermarket rear cam integrated to the main screen in my wife's c300 benz and wired it to the headunit so I am pretty handy that way. Any help/directions/suggestions? I am borderline OCD so I want to go with something that has the wires hidden and records 24/7 or at least when it is parked to capture such instances.

Yes, I contacted the same shop that did my PPF and they saw the picture and feel that only the paint has transferred so going in to see them next week Thursday. Keeping my fingers crossed that all of it comes off and the PPF investment of $4k saved me!

DR wouldn't have helped — it doesn't record anything when car is off. I am sure done due to battery limitations, but renders DR almost a toy (except in a real moving accident).

Ah ok. That's what I thought and suspected. Maybe it is time to invest in a Dashcam then?

Any DIY instructions/videos here that are straightforward and in detail?

Sorry to hear about your car. A couple of threads below for dashcams installs:

https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=24424359

https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=24267260

I personally didn't have any experience working with car trims, fuses, etc, but was successful by following the above threads and some help from members here. I also installed a battery pack to enable recording while the car is parked. The front fuse box is a pain to work with but the one in the back (right side of cargo compartment) is easier and pretty huge to store one or 2 battery packs.

I'm embarrassed to say I did this to myself backing out of my garage at 3 months ownership. Scraped a sheetrocked and painted post. I was crushed. I don't have film so didn't have that extra protection. Cost me $500.

I had it professionally installed. All hidden wires... no rattling...

Thanks Marty!!! I picked this up on Friday at my local auto store and worked on the car today with this product! Worked like a charm and everything came off and thankfully the PPF isn't scratched also...wohooooo

Looks like brand new again.
