Thought I'd share a pic of something interesting!!

Apparently on a new freeway in AZ where it runs over an older side street the X5 thinks I'm supposed to be doing 35mph??? LOL It does however catch the actual speed sign that is way up on a wall from time to time but then resorts directly back to this or nothing at all. I thought it was only reading the signs but apparently it uses GPS data as well. Interesting And before I get hate I slowed down before the pic so not to offend anyone.

Have you been on the 202 by-pass loop yet? It's very nice and the area the will be built out there looks amazing at the base of the Estrella Mountains....

Out of curiosity.... Arizona has the only road in the US with signs in km (I-19). Any idea how the X5 would interpret those signs?

Good question I don't typically go that far south but if I ever do I'll check.

I got a reading for 100 km/h in a 40 km/h school zone a few times on the same road.

Therein lies the problem with automatic speed adjustment. In my Q7 it was all or nothing - ASA was either on or off, and the car automatically set the speed according to what it "thought" it read (and it read inactive school zones, hand-lettered construction signs, truck speed limits, and access road signs driving down the Interstate - none of which were the actual speed limits, and some of which were as much as 50 mph over or 30 mph under, instantly applied to the throttle). At least in the BMW (in the US) I get to decide whether to set the speed to what it "sees."

not the 202, but been out to the 303 and its beautiful out there!!!

honestly, you can be going 80mph and you wont even know it since our cars are so smooth/quite. especially compared to my MDX, I can be going 65mph and its much nosier than my G05 going 100mph

That the area I currently live in is off the 303 towards the white tank mountains.

The primary source of the speed limit is from reading the signs but if there are none to be read it will try and get the speed limit info from the Nav data.

The one thing that gets me though is as I was driving it first read the speed limit for the sign but then quickly changed instead of just keeping last known. It seems it uses Nav to trigger a change in speed even though it would pick up the speed signs once in awhile. So new freeway here going over known side streets so it would quickly change all over the place in in some cases would read the speedlimit then go to a dark sign that said limit. LOL I think it looks at NAV first and that actually trumps the visual. I would bet once I get a map update that shows the new freeway it will not have any issues moving forward due to nav. Because if it was sign first it was picking those up then reverting back to something else.

Something I'd like to try is place a 45 over a 35 and test this but it might be frowned on...

Perhaps it is just the wording in the docs but it seems like the signs are the primary source and the nav data secondary when signs are not present. I guess it could mean though that it overrides the signs and also displays the limits with no signs.

Yeah that would make sense on why it was so confused even though the sign was there. If it is doing a compare with nav the nav would say Ummm NO here is whats known now use that. Basically thinking to itself the read limit was an error. So basically both have to be correct in the compare to work.
