Conversely, can anyone find an MSport with a non-leather dash that is stitched?

Here's a January 15th build of a 50i msport with the non stitched dash. So maybe it is as rs4eva suggested that they had some random stitched dashes that they used up in December.

Right now I'm thinking it is tied to MSport. Lets see if other weigh in if that pattern continues.

Interesting. Thanks for the responses everyone. I ordered a 40i m sport with extended black merino initially without the leather dash. After reading the forum, I thought I would regret so I tried to change but I had already entered production status. Will be fine either way, but stitched dash and doors would be a welcome surprise.

Just to be clear, you're saying that you suspect that Msports will have a non-stitched dash and you're thinking that maybe the xline will have stitched dash.

Yes, with the examples we have had so far that is the case. Of course, I'm sure someone will post the exception right after this post.

It looks like maybe BMW is configuring this way:

1) Sensa-Tec upholstery gets Sensa-Tex (faux leather/stitch) dash
2) Leather upholstery gets base dash unless leather dash ordered

.

that is bizarre. Why would they make the plastic dash at all if they have a sensa-tec version? I guess to "encourage" to upgrade for $1000?

No, mine and many others are Vernasca and have the stitching.

Roger that - was a guess.

Other theory then is that the base dashes are being phased out?

Right now that is all we can do is guess.

I'm pretty much convinced it is tied to the MSport. I just checked out 30 postings from 4 different dealers and for all MSports the non-leather dash was not stitched. For all xLines with a build of 12/18 or later, the non-leather dash was stitched. Let's see if someone posts an exception to that.

I would recommend anyone to get a leather dash. I got into 2 loaners without it and man it's a different feeling inside.

I fear (because I pick up an MSport next week and did not order the leather dash) that you're right and as rs4eva mentioned it is bizarre. Like you, I walked the new inventory of several dealers and the pattern seems to hold true.

Don't fear it, I'm sure stitching or not you are going to love your new X5.

You may be on to something. I found a very fresh msport that was produced 1/28/2019 and the dash is not stitched. I have not had luck finding a very fresh xline to see if the opposite is true.

Off topic, but there is a ton of inventory at the dealers I've looked at of fairly base xlines under $65K that were produced in October, November that have been sitting for months. I'd say one should be able to get an exceptional discount on such a car.

My X-Line loaner had sensatec and the stitched dash. My M Sport has leather seats and plain dash.

Didn’t order leather dash on my xline, so I was willing to accept boring plastic dash, since it didn’t bother me on my f10, but then when I got my x5 with this dash with nice stitching (I assume it’s sensa Tec, since it doesn’t feel as nice as my merino leather on seats and arm rests) I was really happy, the stitching on the dash and doors look really nice! It’s not leather but I will take it!

My week 48 (Last week of Nov) is XLine with plain dash/no stitching

Good, that falls right in line with what we have been seeing with pre-December being different. The xLine/stitched - MSport/plain seems to apply to builds after November.
