Valentine One False Alarms
Took delivery of our new X5 last week. Had a fairly long ride for Thanksgiving so I decided to move my V1 from my other car to the X5 for the ride. As soon as I tuned it on, it began false alarming (radar sensor).
I found this link which suggested it could be the gesture control or the speed detection. Only solution seems to be putting a piece of black electrical tape over the rear facing laser sensor. https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1379845 I may call Valentine tomorrow and see if they have other suggestions. I am sure others have crossed this bridge before. Annoying to take a long trip without the V1 turned on. Anyone effectively dealt with this issue before? |

Post your query to this forum and you will get helpful replies although doing an initial search should also prove beneficial. I had no V1 problems with mm 2008 X5, but started having problems with the 2012 then the 2015 X5s. I solved the problem by getting the V1 dongle and configuring the settings in a way that resolved that issue for me. However, I have not found a way to remove all 'false' alerts with the V1. https://store.valentine1.com/store/pricelist.asp I do not know how much you exceed the PSL, but there are newer CMs on the market to put my V1 in a support role.

I have found BWM to be finicky about the power outlets. For example, I have several lighter socket USB attachments and none will light up in the BWM. However, when using the BMW supplied lighter socket UBS adapter it works just fine. Similar issue with the USB outlet by the cupholders. Won't work with most of my after-market lightning cables. Apple cables are fine (as is thankfully the right-angle USB to lightning cable I just bought from Monoprice - got this as the standard USB cable sticks up too high and rubs on the bottom of the sliding door when closing it). |

It seems I have two options if I want to use the V1 in my wife's new X5. Either place a piece of black electrical tape over the rear laser sensor or enter programming mode on the V1 and shut off the laser sensors (both front and rear). Since I've never been hit by a legitimate police laser signal, the second option should work fine and avoid mucking up the rear laser sensor with leftover tape glue for when I put in back in my car. I'll just go back into programming mode and turn the laser detector back on. Fortunately, I should be able to count on one hand the number of times I'll need to move the V1 from my car to her's over a one year period. So it's not a huge inconvenience for me. Thanks again! |

Edited: To add that a driver of a 7 series posted that my issue is likely gesture control. Ugh. This is from https://www.rdforum.org/index.php Dealer firm did a hardwire install of V1 this morning and now there are laser alerts both front and back. I hesitate to disable this in anyway since V1 is better than the Uniden R3 when it comes to laser scatter and laser 'jammers' are illegal in OK. The installer thought it was the parking assistance package. He told me to watch what would happen when I got over 35. It is true that once over 35 there were fewer alerts, but still too many to tolerate. Fortunately, I use the V1Driver that sends alerts to my Apple Watch so neither passengers nor I must put up with a lot of unnecesary audio alerts.

Of course, Escort Live can also send alerts to your AW. Unfortunately, there is no AW app for Waze.

As does mine which is another indication of how poor the R3 is at laser detection. It is, however, the current distance king of windshield detectors having shut down the Escort Redline series.
I had either K or Ka falses with my V1 in my F15 but was able to work on the settings to deal with those. However, this V1 laser issue when one has gesture controls and other radar is too much. I could try to test the Escort 360 from my wife's E70, but I would have to get the power from the rear power port of the G05.

I do not frequently hit triple digits, but I have gone over 25 years without a radar/lidar speeding ticket. However, VASCAR got me in NC a few years back on a rainy day in the Smokeys when the PSL was 55 and I was 80+ which is grounds for losing driver's license for 'reckless driving'.

I thought you posted this photo somewhere but I could not find it yesterday. In any event, it is good to know that moving my V1 to a higher location on the WS would not resolve the issue unless you only get rear alerts and not from the front.
Do you have gestures, HUD, ACC, etc?

Please report back. At this point, I am not willing to lose gesture controls so I am searching for a new solution to cope with real lidar alerts.

I had to deal with K band BSM in my F15, so do we know all the types of radar used by the G05?

I have R3 1.46, but have no plans to drive anytime soon in NYC, MD or DC.

Thanks for this update. The way forward looks grim unless I finally surrender to ALPs.
