Dashcam ideas

Hi, all. What do you think of dashcams for the 2019 X5? I would like something that's unobtrusive and installs cleanly, and I do not care too much about it recording while parked, just when I'm driving. It would be really nice if we could somehow tap into the video of the front camera that's already there, but I'm guessing that's impossible.

I'd like to know as well. Ideally I want a hardwired front/rear set up professionally installed. I know there are some good ones out there which I could share. Before I posted the ones I would likely use I want to see if anyone has wired some up yet.

I have been using BlackVue brand and been happy with it.
Unfortunately, we can't tap into the existing on-board camera. It has been discussed before in the F15/F16 sub-forum and no solution for it but aftermarket camera.
It will be much easier install if you don't need it to record during parking, you can just go ahead get the cigarette lighter plug or use existing cigarette lighter plug if available. F15/F16 has one in the trunk area.

I'd rather have a hardwired solution since the G05 looks elegant inside and doesn't need random cables floating around for a dash cam. Blackvue is my top choice right now (4k).

Check the Owl Dash Cam. I had the Anker Roav dash cam on my E70 hardwired behind the mirror but needed a different mounting location when I got my XC90 due all the sensors behind the rear view mirror.

For those who have hardwired dashcams, what is the install process like? Is it a DIY or pro job? I don't want random cords dangling around or plugged into the cigarette lighter, but I am also wary about doing major interior work on such a nice new vehicle.

While it's not an X5, I'm guessing it's a similar process.

I bought BlackVue DR900S-2CH and BlackVue Power Magic EZ (PMEZ) for Easy Parking Mode (OBD Port Powered). Plus blendmount to mount the dashcam behind rear view mirror.

Which blendmount did you buy?

Would you be able to share some photos? How the front camera and mount look attached to the mirror and what/how much wire is exposed?

Does Mirror Tap have a product for G05's.

TIA

Wouldn't use a mirror tap on this. My rain sensor got knocked out by my radar detector. Now I run straight to the fuse box.

It’s easier to use BlackVue Power Magic EZ (PMEZ) for Easy Parking Mode (OBD Port Powered). It connect directly to obd port for power plus you don’t have to run cable to fuse box in the rear of the car.

I access my OBD port a fair amount for coding and changes, plus I want it recording when the dealership takes it for a drive with service and I'm afraid they won't plug it back in after they unplug to access.

The OBD port on the G05 is very finicky. My Backvue worked perfectly on my X15 X5 however it is hit or miss on the G05. I am going to rewire using power magic to fuse box instead.

Has anyone wired a rear dashcam to the tailgate? I can't figure out a good way to fish the wire from the interior of the car to the back of the window. I've removed the side panels but can't seem to access the rubber channel that goes to the tailgate. Any ideas? Otherwise I'll need to go to a professional

Did you rewire yourself to the fuse box in the back? Any issues?

My dealer said he would do it for me. There is another fuse box in the front on the right side under the glove box which they are going to use. I don't have time until after Jan 1 to bring the car in. The OBD cable I have does work, however, when I go on a long trip and use cruise control, the power is lost to the unit unless I have parking mode turned on. What is interesting is that when I depress the accelerator pedal, the power returns.

That's strange about the OBD behaving that way, best to wire it directly. I'll ask my dealer as well if they would do it rather than a local shop who probably have not yet worked on a G05.
