How much is your local dealer's fee?
I see a lot of variance with BMW dealers in my area.
Our dealer charges $599, which I feel is reasonable. Highest I have seen locally is $999. Curious what other's experiences are. |

Dealer service or dealer prep fee. You've never heard of this before?
Sample Fine Print..."Represents cost and profits to the selling dealer for items such as cleaning, inspecting, adjusting vehicles and preparing documents related to the sale." It's a pure money grab, but I've never bought a car here in Florida without paying something. I suppose it could be negotiated out, but I always factor the cost into my overall discount/deal. |

Mine was $499. There are signs posted in every sales cubicle/office stating that the fee is charged on all sales. Just negotiate the price down a bit to try and cover for it.

In Florida, it is usually around $795-799 now.
Greedy auto dealers have had politicians in their pocket, and have made it a law to charge everyone, if they charge any person ever. So it has to be included in all sales, by law that Auto dealers pushed. Also, you pay it even when you lease, even though technically the dealer is selling the car to BMWFS and not to you, and BMWFS is charging the buyer $925 Acquisition fees to acquire it from the dealer. To add insult to injury, you have to pay this "Doc fees" again if you want to purchase the same car from the same dealer at the end of your Lease! Only in FL; don't know how they have been getting away with this outrageous additional fees; these don't apply in GA next door! |

The way I see it, I just know what bottom line number I want to pay. Whether they categorize costs as fees, vehicle cost, extra options, accessories, etc., I don't really care as long as they get to that number.
My dealer had all kinds of "protective coatings," leather care, VIN etchings, etc. that I would never have chosen to add but they had "already added to the vehicle." I don't care; as long as you get the bottom line to my number, charge me whatever you want for those options and fees! |

I think mine was $399 basically the cost of doing the paperwork they claim.

I got the 6% off MSRP but they agreed to trade-in amount $4600 higher than my local dealer so I overlooked the dealer fees. I have used the route you mentioned in past with other cars; My current deal for X5 was made entirely by email; I only sent them pics/carfax/service history of my trade-in. |

It is not Google, it is the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles that says it does not have to be paid by the consumer.
