I am assuming this is compressed or very low quality since it is using some sort of cell signal. Can anyone confirm?

It is compressed but no more than usual Spotify and quality is fine accepting it is Spotify .

I have the HK sound system, so I am not an audiophile with regards to my X5. I don't see a difference between using this method versus streaming from the phone through Apple Music.

polychromatic I assume you mean on Spotify? Nope. I have the Hulu, Showtime, Spotify Premium bundle...I am not sure, but I think you need Spotify premium for it, which doesn't have ads.

I have no data plan/wifi hotspot. Never activated the 3-month trial either. I posted in the other thread with a theory that Spotify and the other available streaming companies may be footing the bill to combat Apple Music's growing subscriber base. If Apple Music streamed directly to the car, then I will definitely cancel Spotify. Who knows what BMW and the companies are doing anymore.

I asked, because I have it (the Spotify free app), and it works fine, it just has a lot of ads.

So after use only a few times over the last 36 hours, I've noticed either a bug or bugs right away. Once in the car, it continues playing automatically around where it left off outside the car; that's nice. But I've now already had multiple times where then it suddenly interrupts a minute or so later and starts playing something entirely random, not even related to anything I would ever listen to. I also now had it show one song and play another over and over non-stop, even when changing to the next song (which then displayed as currently playing but wasn't) — there is something really weird about seeing Led Zeppelin and AC/DC on the display and hearing an upbeat ambient instrumental, over and over.

I am on 11/2019.40. Looking forwards to fixes. I guess since this is an app, the updates might come quicker.

I'll let you in on a secret...apply to your local community college (free) and get accepted and a nice .edu email address. Enjoy a nice discount on Amazon, Hulu/Showtime/Spotify Premium, and others. I've dedicated myself to be a student for life...never know when you might "audit" a class!

This might be a Spotify issue. I've had the same or similar when first connecting Spotify to multiple different Bluetooth sources that do or don't have the Spotify app, both of our cars (Mercedes and Toyota) as well as numerous Bluetooth speakers. Exact same sort of thing, in the vehicle it'll get stuck showing the first song it played or continue a song on repeat.

I've always had to quit the app on my phone and then open it again, not sure what the fix is for the idrive.

Didn’t work for me but I’m on 07/2019 version of iDrive. Separate issue but no clue how to upgrade iDrive to the latest - does this require a trip to the dealer?

On CarPlay I use Spotify but don’t normally stream - I have most of my Spotify music downloaded to my phone in high quality files. Guessing that won’t work here.

yes - to get the latest software you need a dealer visit until BMW rolls out the OTA updates (but that's a different topic all together).

This might be a Spotify issue. I actually have never experienced quite that exact set of issues on any other Spotify platform (iPhone native, iPhone over BT to car or to speaker, Sonos streaming Spotify, Windows and MacOS desktops). Sure, some other things I might describe as mild bugs, but nothing like that. Lucky, perhaps.

My IDrive Spotify App version is currently 3.6.9, by the way (Option button on any song).

We have a family Spotify account. I'm having issues with having 2 accounts. I want my wife's key to linked to her Spotify account and my key linked to mine. Has anyone been successful in linking 2 accounts?

Hm, the US press release just posted seems to indicate that account/profile should be supported. At least we know the intent is there. Sounds like you need to use the manual login approach to add second account.

So interesting enough I added my account manually versus using the QR Code and when I setup my wife's I used the QR code. I was out this evening and it recognized my account. I'll test her's tomorrow to see if it retained her account.

Ok I figured out this evening an issue with Spotify. I uncovered it when I did a remote start from the restaurant. When I got in the X5 Spotify was giving me a QR code as it didn't recognize the account. When I drove home I decided to reboot the iDrive and my Spotify account was there and functioning. That explains what happened this morning as well via a remote start.

Go to your Apps, hit Options and Update. Once finished go to Media and it should be there.

Sorry about that. I've got 11/2019.40. I think you need the updated version. The one thing with the Spotify outside of CarPlay is it uses the X5's cellular versus your phones data.
