Thanks
My airflow markers were on the filters - before I took them out, I noted that flow was front of vehicle to back

Its dusty season here and i noticed my ac airflow is clogged up... i can barely feel it coming out on the second and third increment setting. I purchased some filter and will be doing them soon. In the desert climate, you wouldn't be exaggerating if you changed them every 6 months.

thanks for the write up.

Does anyone know if these filters should be replaced as a part of normal warranty/maintenance service at the dealer? (Context: I have paid extend maintenance on 2019 X5 with 32K miles and the filters have never been changes :S)

Today I cleaned the ventilation and removed the cabin filters. Both are located from the factory with arrows from the back to the front.

According to the manual, they want them replaced at every second engine oil service or 20K miles. I just changed the cabin air filter on my wife's car last night, its got 20,500 miles and the filter was disgusting. I will be changing mine out sooner than their recommendation in the future.

Are you saying the arrow on the filter needs to point towards the front passenger seat?

That's what I heard on a Youtube instruction

On the contrary, from the front passenger seat towards the engine.

seems like conflicting info here. some say front to back some say back to front.

Anyone know/wanna be the tie breaker? I have no markings on my OEM filters to help.

is it dangerous to try feeling the direction of the air without the vent inside?
(if anyone is willing to, ensure that you try both slots.) I think I might do this on the weekend.

I just changed the cabin filters on my G05. The OEM filters I removed had arrows with airflow pointed toward the firewall as I was removing them.

Check out this photo that I took as I was removing the original filter from the factory.

Then why is it not part of the maintenance? I think this should be included in their maintenance program as it probably affects the AC performance..

Thanks...I just googled "Cabin Micro Filters"...they are also called Cabin Air Filters. So they are included in their Ultimate Care maintenance program. I'm surprised as I was reading posts about people not getting them when their cars were serviced. They are installing them themselves!

They are included in their Ultimate Care maintenance program which is standard for Vehicles model year 2017 and newer. @Marty in NY verified it with BMW.

Brigitte, actually I was joking about calling the head of BMW world wide , I just went to their website as I knew it was published there.. .. https://www.bmwusa.com/explore/bmw-v...onditions.html

Keep in mind that their policy is that this maintenance is.. .. NON-TRANSFERABLE. Meaning only the original 1st buyer gets it. You can read that towards the bottom of their web page. So theoretically if you bought a CPO with 1K miles on it, you would not get that free maintenance I had a dealer tell me that the second owner could buy the balance of that plan for $125 or something close to that. However, I have never seen that in writing on any BMW site so don't know if its true and since it came from a dealer, well, heck, you know.. ..

At the joke about calling the head of BMW (When I initially read it...it registered in my mind that you called Genius...as I was planning to call them to ask that same question and I thought Marty beat me to it ). However, it is now confirmed thru their website that it is included. I think some people missed it. So thank you for pointing it out. I understand that it is only for new purchased or leased cars.

Ok so I got to check the vent while the fan was on. The correct direction was arrow pointing toward the front of the vehicle for 2019 G05 40i without rear climate package (arrow pointing towards firewall/pointing towards engine/away from front passenger seat/back to front or however you want to describe it).

I wasnt able to check the airflow with my finger alone. I had to wiggle the filter forward and backward and checked which side had more airflow and sound. I was able to make out which direction was making more airflow and louder wind noise.

I had to check this myself as some people were saying dealers put it in some way and factory put it in some other way... I also called the dealer but they were just saying "however it was inserted last time", which wasnt helpful.

Anyways there it is. You can try for your self. With the filter in, one side of the filter will have stronger airflow so wiggle it to create some space for air to leak out and feel the leak and find out which side has stronger air leak. Stronger leaking side is the air input (where the arrow should point away from)

See my correction below: I'll check my invoices but I'm almost positive my dealer did NOT replace my cabin filters at my last "free service" at the 3 year mark. I did purchase the enhanced maintenance package but the only items I received were new wiper blades after I asked that they be replaced. Nothing else.

I thought I found a good deal on Amazon for replacement filters but they arrived today and they don't fit. I'm searching now for other sources other than the dealer.

Correction: I erred. My dealer, Sun Motors in Mechanicsburg, PA DID replace my cabin filters at my 2nd oil service. I apologize for my mistake.

Right, its every other oil change that they will do this. You can always pull yours, check them out and use compressed air to clean them in-between the dealer changes if you want, just be sure to blow the air in the right direction, against the arrow on the filters so you are blowing back out from where it entered them.
