Mine hasn’t change at all but would explain how some can look so off and yet pass QC??? I just went and checked again now over a year old and it is perfect. I am too ocd and would try fixing it myself if it was off as much as some of these pics. It can’t be a hard adjustment.

As per a number of articles well published the new X5 is meant to be a step up on the F15, and I agree, also the X5 is my wife's choice/car I drive it weekends as the family car with 3 kids in the back.
The choices for a large and some how still good car to drive is somehow limited, the alternative was a Cayenne, but the premium price (20k more) on it here in Ireland with the car tax system, was simply no on, so coming across this tread highlighting the same low standard flap door alignment we experienced with our F15 was a turn off, hence me ranting, let's hope the low quality standards on the G05 are far less and limited to the one on the F15. As to my daily choice, I always opted for the German made 5 series, if I was to move to an SUV, the only option for me will be the Macan. Let me add that officially BMW make more margins on the X5 than any other model, maybe going forward the X7 will be the one, no wonder why. |

Please don't confuse country-specific option packaging with BMW AG production capability or other philosophy. I was able to pick and choose each option individually, as can buyers in Germany and most European countries.

I noticed a small misalignment in my fuel door. Nothing that can be noticed unless specifically pointed out. I will mention it when I bring in my car for it's first service.

Mine is perfect. It Looks like a bunch are off from the pictures. I bet a large batch were made incorrectly and the manufacturer decided to push them through without wanting to replace them. I’ll bet that was an American supervisor willing to cut corners to save money and time. It’s unfortunate because most of the car seems over engineered like typical German products.

My M50i has the same issue. It bothered me until I saw my sister in law's new tesla model Y.
If people can wait for 6 months to get a Tesla whose door panels don't align, I think I can live with the small gas door issue of my leased x5...

My experience with BMW SUV gas tank doors: I've had two F86: one not so good, one almost perfect; three F15: two bad and one OK; two G05: they were both bad; and one G07 which was great in the past. I talked to the dealers, and they all said it was normal, just the "nature of the beast" (puke) and replacing the door would yield the same result, so no point of wasting time and money on it. And I thought it really bugged me but whatever, just a gas tank door. I was hoping the new car wouldn't have the same problem, luckily it's absolutely perfect and the best I've ever had on a BMW SUV. Could it be model specific, lot related, or just bad parts and quality control? Who knows, this is BMW after all I feel for you, but perhaps replacing the door really wouldn't make a difference like the dealers have suggested. I know you're asking about G05, but wanted to share my experience with many of BMW SUVs. |

Checked mine when I went to pick it up yesterday - ran my finger around it and it looks flush.
I didn't want to inspect it too closely as it'll bug me otherwise! lol |

Mine is flush with the car (X6) but I must say, when filling up the car, the lid does feel remarkably flimsy, its very "delicate"
Is that the same with everyone or do I have something lose with the hinge ?

Mine is flush and properly aligned w car on both X5 & X7. I'm surprised something this obvious would get past quality control in Spartanburg.

July 2020 build. Mine is flush. I'm not sure if this gas door was dipped/spray painted along with the rest of the vehicle, which would make me hesitate from requesting a replacement. Good luck to those who I see have a poor alignment, that they can get a replacement.
