Hi guys.

The missus has ordered a 650.

So we now have a e92 and a 650 - 2 coupes (althought the 6 is more of a 2 seater).

I am thinking of getting rid of the e92 (I still love the damn thing - although I have had a lot of problems with it) in exchange for a small SUV.

Am contemplating the LR2, Tiguan or Tuareg.

I want to use it for some light offroading as well.

So does anybody have any experience with either of these? And how good are they off road?

I love the touareg. It's one of the few SUVs thats offroad worthy. Back in 2005, it was cool to have the V8 when gas wasn't so expensive (and now its impossible to sell) and the V6 was powerless. Now a days, the V6 should be more adequate. It completely gets my recommendation. Beach, mudding, floods, light off-road courses... the touareg has never had even the slightest hitch. (You can see it in the corner of my sig pic)

I know nothing about the cars th OP referenced from a technical perspective.

However of the bunch, I vote for the LR2. That has got to be one of the nicest looking SUV's that have true off road capability.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that he's excusing the Q7 because its about as far from small as you can get, and he's excusing the X5 because it's too expensive for people who don't really like SUVs and it's off road capability is limited from what i've seen.

My vote is for the LR2 as well. I'm an LR fanboy, got a D2 myself- but that LR2 is def. a good direction the company took following the Freelander. The LR2 is def. off-road capable. There were a couple that came out on group ride. They're not hardcore, but def. capable.

I live in the bloody desert currently (Dubai) so most offroading will be on sand and dry river beds.

I did test drive the Tuareg a couple of years ago and found it soft and lacking in feel. But its interior is great and I like the new face lift.

Is there really such a big difference between the V8 and the V6? I heard that there are very close and might as well buy the v6 and save the money.

The Q7 looks and drives like a tank.

The X5 is $100K over here. Am not prepared to pay that much after the 650.

I drove a friend's X5 and it is awful off road.

p.s: Virginia, i see. If you don't mind me asking - where exactly? I live in Danville for 6 years. Loved it. And miss the place (for the outdoors and the atmosphere).

It IS soft. I can't deny that. As far as the engines are concerned, they were very far apart in 2005 when I got mine. They V6 is CLEARLY a better buy now (it almost puts out as many horses as the V8 did back in 2005), so you'll be enjoying my power with a huge mileage improvement.

I'm from Hampton Roads (southeastern), so it's likely that your perception of VA (the beautiful Apps, views, quiet atmosphere) and mine (crowds, traffic, flattest area i've ever seen, buildings everywhere) couldn't be more different. Danville is a beautiful area to say the least.
