Backup Assistant Auto Brake

Our Garage entries are a mere 8 feet wide (actually 92"). When the backup assistant is engaged, the car will stop early on and force manual takeover. Is there a way to adjust this? Yes, the X5 barely fits, but my wife truly needs that assistant...

Are you saying the vehicle self brakes when close to a object when backing up??
That was one feature the X5 didn’t have. If you were backing up and put a object behind you, the X5 would not auto brake. Lots of threads on this and angry owners.

Does it auto brake just slowly backing out of the garage and a bike was in its path??? I am excited if we get this important safety feature activated. I will have to do some test with some couch cushions. Remember a member damaged his gate because this common safty feature was not activated in the new G05 X5. No way it can have a 5 star safety rating without it.

The M50i definitely has auto braking while reversing when it detects an obstruction. It has 2 options, detection from rear and side. I find it to be too sensitive and have disabled it. I haven't discovered any way to adjust it - unlike the driving intervention sensitivities.

As an aside (and potential recommendation), many topics now can vary in their answer/solution as the variations of software in the wild are numerous. I've included current versions (mine) in my signature to indicate the nature of my ability to comment.

Edit:
Here is the path in iDrive: Settings>Driver Assistance>Parking and maneuvering>Active PDC with braking interv

I've got that version. I don't think I have those settings.

It definitely brakes itself sensing the garage door wall. It just started doing this, I'm still learning the car and am sure I changed something.

November 2019 or July 2019. I got July OTA but when I went in for 15,000km service a few weeks later I got updated to November 2019.

I am not going to back my car into a wall testing it though.

I dont know if cardboard will work the same as a real obstacle. I have seen other cars hit homemade obstacles.

This. If you have narrow garage doors turning off the side detection may help. I found that if you don't trigger (many) alerts pulling forward, it won't brake (usually) when slowly backing out with autoreverse.

My X7 on software version 07/2019.59 does it. I've had it slam on the brakes numerous times while backing out of my garage due to the close proximity of the garage door side wall. I've also had it prevent me from backing down a very steep driveway as it thinks I'm going to slam the rear end into the street at the end of said very steep driveway.

I've found that you can prevent it from slamming on the brakes if you back up very, very slowly while it's beeping at you like crazy. I just stop when it beeps with one continuous beep. Then slowly release the brake to start backing up again very slowly. If it beeps again with on continuous beep I just stop briefly and start the process again.

This takes a bit longer but once I figured it out I can back out every time without it slamming on the brakes.

Looks like its supported on 2020 US/CAN models and 2019 and up Europe/Aus models as I see the origin of the postings by the users. I might be wrong though.

It definitely was the wall. I pulled more in the center last night, and it pulled right out this AM. Our X5 is on the 11/2019 version.

My M50i August build will occasionally brake when backing out of the garage. Just happened this week also when I was backing up the driveway and the Garbage/Recycling cans were there. Its a bit startling at first, but I guess it could be a godsend.

Yes it does and is available in the new March update and the previous November update.

I'm wondering if the braking only occurs in the Backup Assist mode rather than just putting it in reverse. I've yet to try the Backup Assist.

Occurs anytime I put the vehicle in reverse and there is something near the sensors.
