Rear Hatch
Not sure if anyone else has experienced this regarding the rear hatch. I went into my garage and noticed that the top section of my hatch was open and resting against the garage door. Very thankful that no one tried to open the garage door. Luckily no major damage to the hatch. The only thing that I can reason is that the button on the fob was depressed while in my pocket. I can’t understand how the hatch could open when so close to a door or wall. This is a shortcoming that I see as a huge issue. Am I missing something here? I would love to turn off that feature on the fob but cannot find a way to program. I have purchased a leather cover for the fob to prevent this happening in the future and also installed a 1/4” thick sheet of neoprene with directly to the garage door panel to prevent scratches should this happen again.

Brings up a good point though, sensors everywhere, they should code it so the hatch doesn't open when the rear parking sensors see objects within 3' or whatever the appropriate space is.. Or use the camera even to make sure that object isn't a person with shopping cart..
Not sure I would call it a shortcoming unless lots of other cars have this, but certainly a good idea to do it. |

Either way, seems like a solvable problem that can prevent damage. I'm always afraid of this happening too, and then the garage door being opened causing fairly extensive damage to the tailgate, maybe more, including the garage door. |

Ha ha ha, you guys are funny...I've hit my garage door when lifting my tailgate by hand! D'oh! Luckily, no damage but boy did I feel stupid that day.

I use that rubber/foam pipe wrap on my inside garage door where the door would hit. I do this even on my truck bay if the tailgate accidentally falls and hits the door. I did this 10 years ago when my then SUV rear hatch couldn’t be adjusted when open and would bump the garage door when fully open. Thank goodness the BMW has a open hatch adjustment.

I once left my tailgate open on an E70 X5 the day we moved into our previous house. It was like 11 pm and we had been moving for like 6 hours or so. Was unloading tv's and never went back to close it. Backed out to make another trip, with the tailgate still open. 🤦🏻Was like $1700 in damage if I recall, luckily none to the garage door.
I would imagine opening the garage door not realizing a tailgate was open would be way worse, garage door opening against it, maybe popping off the tracks and crashing down on the car.. I don't even know. A silly little thing turn disastrous. Or maybe it would just scratch the car and stop when it senses the resistance lol. But I'd rather not find out. |

I did buy a keyfob cover. 3D Design. Very well made. ECS Tuning sells them.
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-3d-desig...7105-0131~3dd/ This is the neoprene that I applied to the garage door panel. 12” x 54” x 1/4”. Peel and stick. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |

If you have Bimmercode, you can code the delay around the function of pressing the button on the key fob so as to avoid opening accidentally.

I saw that coding option. I thought it was the delay from when you push the open button to when the hatch actually opens.

OP..Crap! Thankfully no damage. Here in Florida code requires our garage doors to have these massive hollow steel beams across the door for hurricane rating....being from New Hampshire originally I was not used to this. Never had this "hatch" hiccup happen but I've had bad dreams about it for sure!
