Headrest question

Ok, i feel like an idiot asking this but here goes. I'm aware of the button near the seat controllers that raises/lowers the headrest but how do you move it forward/back? i looked in the manual and there's a picture of a button on the headrest that you push to slide forward/back. This is like most cars. Unless i'm completely insane i do not see any button LOL. can it be moved forward/back?

I know on the luxury seat package there isn't away to move the head rest forward and back. However you can move the shoulder section forward and back which essentially does the same thing.

There is no way to move just the headrest forward/back. Some claim this is due to new safety regulations but who knows. If you have the comfort seats though you can adjust the upper part of the seat which may or may not help.

Edit: I see VTENGR beat me to it, I must be getting old.

That particular button on the standard sport seats actually move the head restraint up and forward or down and back. It doesn't tilt or slide the head restraint forward or back.

This question eluded me since the very beginning until I found out it is not possible with the luxury seating. It is one of the most annoying and idiotic design decisions in this whole car. What point is it to use shoulder adjustments to adjust the headrest?! Either your head or your shoulders can be comfortable.. but not both!

You can fold them in a C shape by hand on the luxury pkg, not sure on the non luxury pkg.

Yeah, the "folding" feature is nice. they are actually very comfy headrests, just wish they could be moved.

Slightly different headrest question...... Does anyone know how to remove the rear headrests? I thought a little lifting effort would free them but I can't get them free, and I've tried with and without the button pressed to lock the height.

Any ideas guys?

The User's manual says the rear headrests are not removeable, but only foldable and adjustable in height.

I looked in the manual but couldn't find anything, it was a quick look though, I'll go back and find it.

Thanks for the info, not a real problem,.. Just wondered

I find using the index at the back of the owners manual the quickest way to find info I’m looking for. For example, go to the index and look for H section for either head rest or head restraint.

EDIT...yep...the index for my 2014 X5 even lists the page that the info for the rear head restraint info can be found. So the info for the G05 should be there too. And you can also look up this info in iDrive since there’s a digital version of the owners manual stored there as well.

So.. by way of an update, and despite the manual saying otherwise.... the rear headrests CAN be removed. I came across This Video on YouTube, thought I'd give it a go.... and it works, pop the cover, press the other button at the same time as the one you can see and the headrest comes right out.

Just goes to show that it pays to look past the manual sometimes.
