2019 Discounts?

I see most of the discussion here is on 2020 pricing. There is quite a bit of 2019 inventory still out there (my local dealer has 27 2019's sitting right now). I'll be leasing, so unless there's a really compelling reason why it makes sense to buy a 2020, I'm sure there's some money to be saved by going after a 2019 model.

I'm no stranger to negotiating these deals, but I always like to go in armed with as much information as I can. With that said, what type of discounts have been achieved on leftover '19's? If people are getting ~10% off 20's, should I be aiming for 15% off before incentives? More?

Any insight much appreciated.

I've had the same thought; if people can get 10% off a 2020 order, there must be more discount in a 2019. I'm looking to lease as well. A 50i because I want the DHP.
So far no luck;

- I've had one dealer respectfully decline a ~16.5% discount (before incentives).

- Another told me they'd do 8, maybe 9% off a M50i order (quiet about the 2019 50i discount).

- another one just went silent.

- Another offered 10% off a 40i.

Maybe I'm crazy but it would seem a discount in the 15-16% neighborhood for a '19 tracks if '20's are selling at 10% off.
My problem is the only way to get DHP on a 2020 is the M50i and that's a bit more than I'd like to spend

I think the logic that 2019s should sell for less than 2020s is a bit flawed. The dealers will clear the 2019s without discounting heavily just by people shopping the lots. Those people don't know/care about the 2020. Additionally, the 2019 has better incentives, so the dealers will talk people into the 2019s based on monthly payment, not based on discount from MSRP. In other words, even if the 2020 and 2019 both have a 10% discount from MSRP, the 2019 will still lease cheaper, and that's how they'll move them off the lots.

I would agree the 19' discounts should be great.

My only thoughts are if you want the V8...make the deal awesome for a 19' otherwise the M50 with a good discount is the way to go. Feel like a 19' V8 vs the 20' M50i should be minimum $10k gap.

I found that the dealers don't really want to do too much on a 40i, in fact I got the same 'lease rate' for a 50i as for a 40i ( both were $924 ) and way more than I'm prepared to spend.

What was the MSRP for both?

40i was 72495
50i was 82145

this after the 40i negotiation started like this

What if I could I could get you to $1030 a month with $2500 down? Would that work?

BMW Seattle for reference .

I'm just curious, because on the 40i I was able to get 9% off MSRP... are you saying dealers are giving more % off on the 50i to a point that they're leasing for roughly the same amount?

No in reality the x40i guy was still making way more than I would have wanted him to make the discount on the 50i was great though.

10K off, and then 2250 in rebates for a sales price of just under 70K
with base money factor

I'm still looking to get into a good deal on a 2019 40i with M-sport, but have time, my lease is up in December.

I was able to get a 2019 lease option 12k miles per year, original price was 64500, worked it down to about 55,230 (deff not 56k) monthly payment is 621. Got tire protection and warranty included in it. bmw of westchester was having an event yesterday so we stopped in with a super aggressive deal.

What do you think a discount on a 2019 unit should be 15%?
Been reading buyers on 2020 have been 10% or more.
Any thoughts? I’m going to pull trigger on replacement of my 2019 hopefully Saturday.
I will not buy 19 and less I get 15%

Just depends on region and # of 2019's in inventory. In the Chicagoland area you can get a better discount compared to the rest of the midwest. I would aim for 15% pre-incentive but not sure you'll get there.

Where do you see anywhere in Chicago with 15% pre-incentive? (I'm not being hostile, just genuinely asking). From my experience, even demo's don't get discounted that much. I think the most we get is around 10% + incentives, and "previous year" might be slightly more but not by much. I'm actually in the market too so if you have any info I'd be interested.

Well that's why I said "not sure you'll get there". I think the goal is to aim for 15% but be happy with anything between 10-15% off pre-incentive for the 2019 model.

I myself ordered a custom build 2020 and got 9.2% off back in August, so my guess is by now for a 2019 model you should be able to get better pricing.

If you'd like some suggestions for dealers that I worked with feel free to PM me. I emailed basically every BMW dealer in the chicagoland area so I have a list of the ones that came in most aggressive on pricing.

Did you end up buying? There is still so much 2019 inventory on the lots. Wondering what kinds of deals people are getting now.
