X5 45e hybrid functions modifications

Hi guys,

Did anyone have a chance to play with the 45e e-sys option? I tried to find some things but couldn't find any code related to hybrid functions.

I would like to see if it is possible to raise the charging speed (from 16A to, let's say, 24A at least). To adjust how much of the battery should always be saved, etc.

If someone has ideas, I would be more than happy to explore them myself.

Cheers,
Ivan

oh my - I would strongly recommend against that. One, it will probably void your warranty.
Two, I'm having tons of issues w/ my 45e battery system now; it's been in the shop 32 days so far, and the parts haven't arrived. It's a shaky system when there are issues.
I worked 25 years on spacecraft batteries, and my last stint was at NASA. Trust me, the batteries are fragile if worked outside of planned parameters.

the onboard charger is 3.7kW, and it's PHYSICally impossible to go faster than that.

are you coming from a pure EV perspective? while all 45e have 24kWh battery capacity, only 17.1 are usable in the U.S. and Canada, and 21.6 are usable everywhere else. as such, they are never charged to full capacity, so if your concern is about battery longevity in terms of charging cycles, the lower usable capacities address this

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind.
My car was recalled in September 2020 and then again in 2022 when they changed all 12 cells.

Do you think it's the physical limitation of 3.7kW? I thought they used software to limit it.

Are you referring to the Battery Control setting? I don't have my 45e yet and I haven't read whether the Battery Control setting persists across trips. If it does not, I'd be interested in coding to make it persist across trips.

are you confusing this with software limitations of usable battery capacity?

Battery Control does not remain active after each drive. You have to turn it back on each time, but it will remember the value you last set it at (100%-30%).

Sorry if my English is bad. No, I am not talking about the usable battery capacity. I am just talking about charging speed.

oh ok. the 3.7kW on-board charger's speed is not a software limitation. it's physical, and therefore finite.

Thanks. I have my 45e now. I had forgotten that Battery Control has a dedicated button, so easy enough to just hit that button when you want BC on. Probably better that way than having it always come on even when you may not need it.
